Six families and one FBI agent who responded to the shooting filed a lawsuit last year accusing Jones of defamation for calling the 2012 shooting a hoax.
Jones has claimed repeatedly that the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut never took place.

He may or may not be ... but how did his ramblings costs the families? He hurt their feelings?
As far as I know he spouted crazy conspiracies about them, but unless they can claim that he hurt their “brand,” prevented them from an elected office, cost them contracts, or in some other way financially affected them, I don’t see what they have against him.

The head honcho that led the Columbine High delegation into changing how our schools operate in situations like Columbine even doubts the Sandy Hook story.

How is that Jones's fault unless he directed people to harass the Plaintiffs? Having a political opinion, regardless of how egregious it may be, is not grounds for defamation or incitement. It's no different than libs trying to blame Trump for every act committed by an alleged Trump supporter.

There has to be an underlying tort for any civil liability to attach. Pain and suffering isn't a tort in and of itself.
