re: John Roberts presiding over impeachment trial
He applied the tax and spend power to legislation that was “not a tax”. In oral arguments the HHS legal team re-asserted the legislation was “not a tax”, yet Roberts justified upholding Obamacare based on taxing power.

This.

Roberts isn't a hard right guy like Thomas, but he's still on the right.

The legislation was orally argues as "not a tax" yes. But the actual written legislation, which is what has to be ruled on labeled the orally argued "penalty" as a tax. That is where the democrats and their lawyers actually carried the day. They knew an oral argument that is at odds with the actual legislation gets ignored.

Like I said the republicans got bitch slapped in front of the court by better lawyers.

Maybe. If Trump is removed from office sans an election I fear there will be mass chaos.

Do you actually believe that? If I handed you a list of R senators, you could list 20 that would vote to remove from office?

I am in the other side... I think even Mitt will be made to see the truth by Mitch and others. ZERO votes from republicans to remove Trump.

Look for the Dims to get their Komrades in the mainstream media to try to pressure the Senate to give Roberts more power than the Chief Justice has had in the past.

Despite what those FILTHY pieces of pure scum did in the House, they'll claim that it's only "fair" if the Republicans alone are not allowed to make all the rules. They'll be a lot of pressure on the RINOs to push this bullsh!t.

If this gains any traction, you'll know that we are being sold out.

There is no doubt that Roberts has been clearly compromised and many of us have discussed this IN THE PAST.

Not a chance in hell. At this stage in the 2020 primary season, Trump could be guiltier than Nixon and Clinton combined and he'd still not be removed. T

If Trump was removed at this stage, the GOP would have to cede the nomination to Mike Pence. There are far too many GOP POTUS wannabes in the Senate to allow that to happen.

If you accept the premise that Republicans would prefer to operate in a post Trump world you can see all kinds of possibilities.

If the court orders Bolton to testify, do you have any idea what he might say?

Will you allow for the possibility that he could say something that 20 neocon cucks can grab on to.

I'm talking about the 5-10 that fricking hate Trump.

Just accept the fact that a trial is incredibly risky for Trump and he would be much better off if it never happens.

Senate Republicans are not.his allies. They simply are not and having his fate in their hands should concern you.

Yes. It's possible it all boomerangs on Dems but Trump's ouster is possible.

It's at least as possible as his 2016 election was. 1 chance in 3.

I'd prefer Trump's fate in voters hands than Senate Republicans.

Is this really true?
Senate can overule him with a simple majority. If he blocks someone like Schiff from testifying Senate can unblock. Not your normal juror setup

Doesn’t he rule over the FISA court. If FISA abuse was done under his supervision then this may allow his recusal as well. I think there is enough ammunition to take him out of the proceedings.

I read somewhere that there is potentially a ground to recuse him...though I'm not sure what it is. If that happens, then next in line is....wait for it.......Clarence Thomas!!! Now that would be something.
That would be a dream scenario.

For executing the office of the President...

These screwy arse leftards are dying on the "personal gain" angle...

Which is completely irrelevant.

Presumably the Senat can overrule any decision he makes - whether they would or not is highly debatable -

Anyone know it if takes a super-majority> or if that is even true??
