The talking point I don’t see many people making is how anti gun people say the 2A is for the national guard, which is not true. The militia were just everyday people who took their own personal weapons and pointed them at the British. They weren’t uniformed or commissioned like the state militia today.

Repeating arms predate the constitution.

-The Puckle gun was the first known revolving cannon. It fired a 32mm round, had a 11-round revolving cylinder, and was invented in 1718. It never saw mass production but demonstrations were performed and it was covered by the newspapers. What killed it was the fact that the parts for it could not be easily produced at that time.

-The Girandoni Air Rifle fired a .46 caliber projectile and had a 20-round magazine. It was invented in 1779 (2nd Amendment signed in 1791) and was used by the Lewis and Clark expedition.

-The Belton flintlock was offered to Congress in 1777. It was capable of firing up to either sixteen or twenty rounds within either sixteen, ten, or five seconds. There are no known surviving examples but it was believed to function similar to a roman candle. Congress wanted a slower rate of fire but balked when they learned how much it would cost.

These people have no consistency with their arguments because they know nothing about guns or history. A musket is a weapon of war, a knife is a weapon of war, a spear is a weapon of war, a rock is a weapon of war.

We need only look across the pond to see where this inevitably leads. A UK MP is proposing to install GPS trackers in all knives so they can crack down on stabbings. This is why I'm done giving so much as a millimeter to these people. They just don't stop.

You're missing the bigger picture.

The only thing standing in the way of leftists removing the FIRST Amendment is the Second.

I'd like for him to name a single conflict that was fought with an AR-15.

Just one.

I'm sure this "weapons of war" tested well in some focus group 20 years ago. Leftists are trying the same surface level marketing tactics they've used forever.

I'm fully aware of that. You can make the argument that all constitutional rights hinge on the 2A.

Like an ex-SEAL said "Whether you want to accept it or not, violence is the gold fricking standard"

I would argue that "weapons of war" are the ONLY arms the 2A protects.

Seconded.

I think a ban against weapons with solely a recreational or sporting application and no utility as a self-defense or combat firearm would pass Constitutional scrutiny.

In classic liberal/progressive fashion, they have so twisted the debate to make, at best, the opposite of what it actually is.
