Jack the Ripper's identity may finally be known, thanks to DNA
For those who are interested

quote:

The identity of Jack the Ripper, the notorious serial killer from the late 1800s in England, may finally be known.

A DNA forensic investigation published this month by two British researchers in the Journal of Forensic Science identifies Aaron Kosminski, a 23-year-old Polish barber and prime suspect at the time, as the likely killer.

The "semen stains match the sequences of one of the main police suspects, Aaron Kosminski," said the study authored by Jari Louhelainen of Liverpool John Moores University and David Miller of the University of Leeds.

The murderer dubbed Jack the Ripper killed at least five women from August to November 1888 in the Whitechapel district of London.

The study's authors conducted genetic testing of blood and semen on a shawl found near the body of Catherine Eddowes, the killer's fourth victim, whose badly mutilated body was discovered on Sept. 30, 1888.

Fake news. No Polack could outsmart the cops like that.

(I have some Polish blood so I can make that joke.)

It's seems like every year they come up with a new suspect. I still think it's the dude from Austin, Texas.

Hopefully his family can be brought to justice.

Maybe they can pay reperations to the victims' families.

They were all whores, right? What if he was just a frequent customer that sprayed on their clothes while paying for services rendered?

Thank God we can finally put that guy away and make everyone sleep better at night. I hope they can use this same technology years from now to convict all the rapists and murderers that are roaming the streets right now in London.

Ha!

They need to do a commercial with the Jack the Ripper descendant. Have him all smiling with a sepia toned crime scene photo in the background.

One of the gals he killed had his jizz left on her clothes. They compared that DNA to known suspects (by using descendants still alive) and matched it to Kominski who has long been a suspect.

Seems pretty airtight to me.

DNA tech has made rapid advances in the past five years. They are now pulling DNA from skeletons that are thousands of years old. They have genotyped Neanderthals, which is how they proved all non-African people alive today have a few percent Neanderthal in them.

From the article:
quote:

Through analysis of fragments of the victim and suspect's mitochondrial DNA, which is passed down solely from one's mother, researchers were able to compare that with samples taken from living descendants of Eddowes and Kosminski.
