It’s time to disallow anonymity on social media

The biggest problem with social media today can be summed up by what Mike Tyson said years ago…..
“Social media made y’all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.”
Anonymity online has created a culture where people feel free to spread divisive language, troll “just for laughs,” and stir up chaos without consequence. It has gone far beyond harmless fun and is now affecting society on a global scale.
I do not see how civil rights are being violated by removing anonymity. Free speech does not mean freedom from accountability. If anything, accountability must be the priority now.
For example, take this board. There are people here that make accounts only to troll and sow division, derail conversations, and add nothing of value.
It’s a start. People will lose jobs. People will have something to lose by talking bullshite online. Something needs to change and by getting rid of anonymity is a start.

I work in IT and I said nearly 10 years ago the time will come where we will have our online identity tied to our real identity and got scoffed at.
Like it or not, agree or disagree it will inevitably happen.

I disagree.
Too much risk of personal violence. One side is deranged and I don't want to be hunted because I dare say I don't want men in my bathroom.

I don’t know if there’s a reasonable way to do that without infringing on basically every right we have, but I do agree that online anonymity is largely to blame for our current situation. They used masks to do the same irl.

TD would have less than 10 users if it wasn’t anonymous.

There's a LOT of people on FB outing themselves as pieces of shite in their posts and comments on Charlie Kirk related posts from news outlets. And they're posting / commenting from FB accounts with their real names and that have their city and place of employment listed on their profiles.
Going to be a lot of people spewing nonsense yesterday that become unemployed today.

BS. I see too many who are more than happy to put their names next to their nuttiness or hate.

Imagine there being no anonymity June 2015-November 2016.
Or during all of COVID lockdowns, mandates, and employer-forced vaccines.
As good as it sounds to you right now, remember that the Dems would use it to stamp out all opposing viewpoints and thoughts.

This is a terrible fricking idea ...
That's enough internet for you today.

You should have to at least verify that you're a real person and disclose your country of residence.

I said its coming whether you like it or not

No one is forcing anyone to participate in social media

That’s the tone of the post.
Accountability is 1000% needed for what we’ve become as a society and social media is mostly to blame.

Unless you're using a VPN ... this happens via IP ...
Come on, Powerbottom, go read up on how the internet works ...

Anyone that has a FB profile has their real first and last name (or at least the vast majority of people) and there is no question about who they are if you scour their social network.
X is a different animal but I have my first and last name there. (Don't post much on there though)

It’s time to consider that people used to keep their inflammatory thoughts to themselves, because they realized there could be consequences

Re-read your title ...
Here's how you re-write that title without the advocacy ...
"You just know that {x} is going to say (which is fricking nuts) ...{insert your title}"
