I was wrong. We in the scientific community were wrong. And it cost lives.
I can see now that the scientific community from the CDC to the WHO to the FDA and their representatives, repeatedly overstated the evidence and misled the public about its own views and policies, including on natural vs. artificial immunity, school closures and disease transmission, aerosol spread, mask mandates, and vaccine effectiveness and safety, especially among the young. All of these were scientific mistakes at the time, not in hindsight. Amazingly, some of these obfuscations continue to the present day.

quote:

We made science a team sport, and in so doing, we made it no longer science. It became us versus them, and "they" responded the only way anyone might expect them to: by resisting.
quote:

Most of us did not speak up in support of alternative views, and many of us tried to suppress them. When strong scientific voices like world-renowned Stanford professors John Ioannidis, Jay Bhattacharya, and Scott Atlas, or University of California San Francisco professors Vinay Prasad and Monica Gandhi, sounded the alarm on behalf of vulnerable communities, they faced severe censure by relentless mobs of critics and detractors in the scientific community—often not on the basis of fact but solely on the basis of differences in scientific opinion.

quote:

When former President Trump pointed out the downsides of intervention, he was dismissed publicly as a buffoon. And when Dr. Antony Fauci opposed Trump and became the hero of the public health community, we gave him our support to do and say what he wanted, even when he was wrong.

When they call for the prosecution of Fauci, I might forgive them

That's like asking the Gaslight Media to admit they're the propaganda media outlets for the Dim/Groomer Party.

These people have done an immeasurable amount of damage to this nation. Tax dollars should not be allowed to support their practice of medicine, teaching, or research.

They are hoping that they will be able to skate on apology alone, and continue like nothing much happened.

Time will tell…

Dayum. There is a litany of shite headed covidians on this board that will struggle with this OpEd.
Unless they can attack Newsweek as a right wing, conspiracy rag.

Lets see how this plays out.

It's an excellent op-ed and makes me suspicious that Newsweek published it.

Project Veritas rented an LED truck and parked it outside of Pfizer world headquarters in Manhattan today.

They are just getting out in front of the slow rolled truth to come.

Amazing. Even while admitting malfeasance they try to frame it as an oopsie and fall on their beloved Sword of Incompetence. And all will be forgiven...
It's always worked in the past. Journalists, government officials, entire government agencies.. oopsie. We need more oversight. We need a bigger budget. We need more power disguised as reform.
Works
Every
Time
They LOVE the Sword of Incompetence.
