One of the first things I saw when I woke up this morning

I'm in a motel in Durango, CO and got up to take the dogs out - checked TD on my iPhone and learned of the event - estimates then were up to 20 dead. Didn't turn on tv until around 4 and it was a local NBC station - Brokaw was on and talking about how we didn't need that many AR-15s in the nation.

What if it was a semi-automatic weapon you could pick up in a regular gun shop that killed 59 people and hospitalized 400+ (so far)?

That would suck. Life is full of sucky things.

there are countless articles, web pages, what not, on how to illegally convert semi-auto's to full auto

Chinese SKS rifles are a classic example, theyre cheap, theyre everywhere , and theyre easily convertible to full auto

But there are laws against making guns fully automatic, there are laws about not killing people, but if we just had another law this could have been prevented...Do you realize how stupid this sounds?

We should make it illegal to do that.

An agenda of common sense?

There are 300 million people in the United States and a very small number actually use weapon in the act of committing a crime......so we need to punish all the law abiding citizens right?

He could have done this kind of damage with pretty much any gun he wanted.. so I think the point stands.

Damn shame the NRA has been so good at bastardizing the Constitution when it comes to gun laws

full automatic been illegal for how many decades already??

well technically full auto isn't "illegal". Its only illegal if you don't go through the correct steps. Anyone that can pass a background check can own one. Only because of the manufacturing ban is the price of full autos through the roof.

There needs to be a massive crackdown on the black market for guns. No one needs a fully automatic weapon like the one this shooter used.

I think today it's perfectly acceptable to talk about the dangers of guns and the problem of gun crime and mass shootings in America.

Hell, I'll talk about gun control if they want.

But it ends the same way - Americans don't think restricting tools as a way to combat the actions of evil or crazy people is a good solution.

Doesnt sound like an M4 or an AK. rate of fire sounds like a MAC 10 but the range would probably preclude this also Mini 30 came to mind

I thought the same thing that it wasn't a 5.56 but more like a 7.62. However, the echoes off buildings could make the reports muffled.

Seems like this only works if the guy is not a liberal. How can they keep encouraging their supporters to get violent and then blame ARs . Crazy people will always find a weapon to use .

Ignorant folks post ignorant things. There is no way in God's green Earth that a semi-automatics weapon could have placed that amount of rounds down range.

It's really not. It was the planned effort that made this so fricked up. Take any nutjob with a plan and a few guns and he can absolutely massacre people.

I say that only because I'm against knee jerk legislation banning "assault weapons" and think that we should instead be looking at training and mental health as a screening tool... not bans.

I was just responding to the narrative that this had to have been a fully automatic weapon making any talk about gun laws irrelevant.
