It's funny how we use words in life and may not understand their origin. I've seen people called Milk Toast multiple times on this board.

quote:

Caspar Milquetoast is a comic strip character created by H. T. Webster for his cartoon series The Timid Soul.[1] Webster described Caspar Milquetoast as "the man who speaks softly and gets hit with a big stick". The character's name is derived from a bland and fairly inoffensive food, milk toast, which, light and easy to digest, is an appropriate food for someone with a weak or "nervous" stomach.

I think you get the picture. This one, however, might be relevant to some:

To the OP, the bulk of this forum sees proper usage as elitist.

Proper use of words are an example of white privilege.

Which brings us to: A word or phrase that sounds like and is mistakenly used in a seemingly logical or plausible way for another word or phrase is called an eggcorn.

Yes, but subject/verb agreement is also elitist.

My 6th-grader had this topic as homework last night. "Ladybug, just remove the prepositional phrase and listen to the sentence."

"Proper use ... are/is an example ...."

Hank has numbers in his username. Numbers are part of math, which is notoriously racist. Ergo, Hank is a racist.

I think this is evidence that either metaphor is fine. Maybe they mean to refer to the food instead of the cartoon It still works.
