It's amazing how much better Louisiana is at election security than Florida, Georgia & AZ

Paper ballots are such a joke and has far too much potential for abuse and fraud. If you have something in your hand, you own it.

Here in Louisiana, you go to your polling station, you have to present photo ID and state your identity, address and so on to vote.

And when the poll workers are satisfied it's you, they make you sign a voter roll and put a barcode next your name in the book.

Then they assign a machine to you where you make your selections and then when you're done, you press cast vote and then you're done and free to leave.

Looks like this.

Texas does something similar.

The fraud comes from absentee ballots, which should be abolished.

We have early voting now, you have no excuse.

That's WTF I'm screaming.

You bastards say the only thing we're better at than football is fricking our cousins but our backwards asses are LIGHT years ahead of our "educated" fellow countrymen.

Mailing in your vote is an absolute joke, if you can't make it to the polling station to perform a civic duty, you shouldn't be voting anyway.

In Louisiana, you have to fill out an application for absentee and mail in voting and there are very strict parameters for them.

The argument of being in a foreign country holds no water either. Just put a ballot box in each embassy, so you can vote in person.

Can get to the embassy? Well, we can’t put a ballot box in the middle of the Sahara. Suck it up.

I live in Georgia and we voted almost exactly as you described.

No shutout here.

Texas has a population of 29 million
Florida has a population of 21 million
Georgia has a population of 10.5 million
Arizona has a population of 7.1 million
Louisiana has a population of 4.7 million

It is much easier to vote in a state that has 1/6 or a 1/4 of the population. It is also easier to have mistakes when you have many more people voting.

I don’t know much about how these states vote, but it is just seems like it is easier to make mistakes when you have more people voting. The cost for each polling place, machines, ballots etc... is much more in Texas, Florida etc...

Not putting Louisiana down, but these states are more important when it comes to politics. They have more people in congress and more electoral votes. Having paper ballots for backup is important in those states compared to Louisiana or Missouri.

How many times did Trump come to Louisiana when running for president or to help someone in the midterms? Compare that to the other states and that is way to see which States are politically more important.

Not having a paper backup seems like it is less secure.

Louisiana gets a bad rap for its political corruption, but we have long been waaaay ahead of the curve in running our elections properly. Other states look like banana republics compared to us on Election Day.

I worked 3 parishes on election day and in NOLA and BR for early voting. Everything went off without a hitch. All of my parishes were finished counts (absentee, early voting included) by 10pm election night. Louisiana might be behind the curve on some things, but I don't think elections is one of them.

Don’t be fooled, we have all kinds of loopholes for shenanigans in our elections. The dead still vote in force all over Louisiana, especially in new Orleans and Donaldsonville.

Personally, I preferred Louisiana’s old mechanical voting machines in which you pulled the lever and it turned the number wheel. No computer, no manipulation.

Plus that automatic curtain mechanism was kickass.

And the names are provided by way of the book of that day’s voters who get bar codes by their names. The same book will also provide all the names of all that precinct’s registered voters who did not get their bar code because they didn’t vote. Can be tabulated in a flash by a couple of sharp and discreet poll workers, with names provided to campaign workers who then could potentially apply those not voted yet names to a box of “found” absentee votes. Easy Peezy.

I was thinking about writing a letter to our state to say how impressive it is to see how we have no problems. Kudos to state of LA. Is this the first time we are number 1 at something that's not bad??

That’s right. My daughter voted absentee this election because she’s out of state at school. Almost needed a lawyer to get it all done properly, but there is no doubt about who she voted for.
