remember these people have already literally protested outside of his house, calling him a "chicken". now he caves after 2 days once the polling reveals this was a huge losing position for the DEMs among the general population. this seems like just the type of behavior that gave the extremists hope only to lead to their rage.

i bet DU already has some legit melts about the caving, as well as calls to remove Chuck and install more extremist, "true progressives" to lead teh party

Oh please let them do this. We need more air time for these idiots as the face of the DEM party.

the Dems really have no ground to stand on. Republicans aren't going to talk about DACA until the government reopens, and the longer the Dems hold out they risks hurting themselves because those illegals can be deported when the deadline comes

The Dems had to know they were going to get crushed. I mean , who does a shutdown hurt the most? It sure ain't R voters.

A politician likes the people he represents , but loves to actually keep his job even more. Once those welfare checks stopped showing up to the D voters , they knew they were on borrowed time.

Of course it will. They refuse to acknowledge that they are on the fringe, thus they believe they have the high ground. To use a time-tested phrase; there are none so blind as those who refuse to see.

And as the Left moves more and more towards the fringes to create their new center, more and more move away from the Left.

Old school mainstream big government libs like Schumer, Feinstein, Biden etc are a dying breed

The future of the party are the progressive whackjobs.

then the DEMs will be done for a generation

that's just way too extreme for the vast majority of the voting population

it would be like the right wing christian base being the legit center of the GOP...suicide

If this happens, you might as well re-draw the political map, as the D's will never get the midwest / rust belt back.

Except for Chicago, they'd be an exclusively coastal party.

the legitimate, hardcroe progs are not that populous, especially outside of freak show areas like San Fran

most people who attend the rallies and join their side are just doing it to maintain face

As the older leaders phase out, those that are most active are more apt to gain this newly-opened positions of leadership. If there's one thing positive you can say about the hardcore progressives, they are definitely active.

The farther into the fringe they are though, the more they push away the centrists while attracting more fringe. It's a slippery slope.

Unless the Democrat party can bring themselves away from a philosophical foundation of identity politics being their primary weapon, they will continue to lose relevance.
