A white man and his wife are walking down a uncrowned Street at night and up ahead they see a small group of people wearing hoodies, sagging pants, gold chains and fancy sneakers.

The couple decides it’s best to cross the street.

Is that action racist? If so, why?

Depends on the deciding factor to cross the street. Was it because the street was full or because they didn't want to walk through the grou? But no that wouldn't be racist. You could argue stereotyping because of prejudices maybe.

If it avoids having the man and wife whip-out matching Glocks and avoid a violent confrontation, it strikes me as being a wise choice ....

Yes. One of the group had skittles. Another had a candy bar though.

If you're walking in the woods and you spot a timber rattler 20 feet ahead. Are you racist against timber rattlers if you deviate your path to avoid it? No, it's called being smart and avoiding potential danger.

Without a definition of the neighborhood, lighting, Black or White group and overall environment ...

Any action is the right action.

Self preservation is not racism. A larger proportion of white liberals are injured and killed because of their ignoring the obvious and being brainwashed by CNN/MSNBC, ETC....

No.

It does not infer they are inferior, nor is it a “systemic” issue.

Reacting to that situation that way is primal.

Not at all. But, depending on the race of the people they were avoiding, they could be accused of being racist. Your description of the small group is not a "dress code" owned by any individual race.

Didn't Jessie Jackson have a story about being at an ATM at 2 in the morning?
