It's not about the Japanese people being villains as much as their implantation in media spiking b/c of our anxiety over Japan in the 80s.
This morphed into criminal dystopia in the 90s b/c of how bad the crime was everywhere. Media projected a very scary near future b/c the 80s was such a violent decade full of violent crime everywhere.
People arguing for nostalgia like to pretend like they were completely ignorant to how shitty things were in the 80s/90s, but they are purposefully not remembering the media depictions on how bad we thought it was (and was going to be).

The 80's were great for music, but in the early 80's the economy sucked.
That period is also pre-internet and pre-social media, which probably has something to do with it.

Classic Rock.
This country slowly started dying with the death knell of classic rock. That music was the music of a strong, independent America.

I agree. The switch happened in the early 2000’s. Something happened. The gay boys would have got an attitude adjustment 4 years prior. Something broke down during that time.
I think back in the '70's and '80's many of us were influenced by WW2 and Korea vets, who were in their 50's and early 60's. I had male teachers who fought in WW2 and my grandfather also fought in WW2. Some of my friends had older dads who fought in WW2. They were great role models for the male youth.
We bitched and we were reminded how better we had it than the previous generations especially the ones that survived the Great Depression and WW2. I think I had to deal with secret jealousy from my older family members like aunts, uncles and grandparents.

quote:Can you say "9-11?" With each passing day I'm more convinced it was a deep state operation. Also, the "hanging chad" thingy in 2000 was strange. When was the last time you have seen a democrat go quietly into the night like Al Gore did? Turns out there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between Gore and Bush. Both deep state to the core.
The switch happened in the early 2000’s.

I was born in 83, and growing up in the 80s and 90s was awesome. Everybody said Y2K was a nothingburger but I'm starting to wonder if there was a glitch in the matrix because it's been all downhill from there

Bottled water became the craze. We use to drink from the garden hose or fill a glass with water from the kitchen faucet. Back in the day the only bottled water was the Perrier - water for the rich.
20 years later we got White Claw.

I think 9/11 when we invited the Federal government to be a much bigger part of our lives in the name of feeling safe. We went all in on a 20 year war we were told would cure our fears of terrorism.
We split along party lines as to exactly how big the government needed to be to achieve that and it has all festered from there. Now we have adults that don’t know any different than a big bloated Federal Government that prints mountains of money. People worship politicians. And I use the word worship because that is exactly what it is.

Lived through 90s and by far the greatest time ever. Thank god social media wasn't big back then.
The internet was something you logged onto to check your email or illegally download music. Maybe buy books on Amazon.
But you spent 90% of your day away from it.
(I'm on the internet bitching about the internet)
Good times.

80's no question but in my opinion the 70's Trumped the 90's so i'd say 70's-80's

Even the 70's with the VN war and Jimmy Carter were better than it is now.

Yep cause the '70's one just needed a doctor with penicillin and easy to get laid. Mid '80's, HIV/AIDS came about. Bummer.

The 90s had the Simpsons, South Park and King of the Hill.

90s country music was very strong and reached the apex but turned to shite after the year 2000.

What happened was the floodgates of darkness and deception were opened after the powers that be fooled THE ENTIRE WORLD into thinking that a couple guys with box cutters, who couldn't even properly fly single engine Cessnas, somehow caused 3 towers to fall which were earthquake proof and yet they somehow fell at freefall speed straight downwards almost like a planned demolition. That whole event was one big satanic ritual conducted by the practicioners of dark magik who understand how to use alchemy(blending technology and sorcery, for instance) to manipulate and control. Sounds far out there, but if you understand spiritual realities you know how real it is.

No, that would be the 70s and 80s.

Wow... I didn't think there would be others here who do quickly understood the cause of our decline

Went to college in the 80's. Everyone was afraid of AIDS and all the girls dressed like your grandmother.

Well, there was bitching about male versus female roles but both knew who they were and trannies were honest about who they were. Gay culture was thriving but didn't have to be shoved into every public outlet. Politics were much more national and local than global. Culturally, there was good music, good movies, a lot more options to actually go do rather than stream...I don't know if they're the best 20 years ever, but they are paradise compared to where we've fallen since.
Ironic to post this here, but frick the internet. It ruined the world.
