That’s weird unless she’s an M.D.

I don''t think she's a real doctor.
Has a PhD

Yeah I know she has a PHD, it’s not typical to refer to someone as a doctor unless they are a medical doctor or famous rocket scientist

Dems had to pick a PhD to sound more credible in the media.

That’s just not accurate.

Academic weenies and liberal douches do it all the time.

Outside an academic setting, it's typically seen as rather pretentiously goofy to do so.

In universities in the UK and Canada, it's common on campuses.
You're right, I think the Dems are striking a pose calling her Dr.

It’s a ploy to make her seem more credible. Extremely transparent.

Everyone I know with a PhD goes by doctor. It would be weird if she had a JD though.

Only douchebags who have PHDs require you to call them doctor.

Precisely, it’s demeaning to actual doctors

She’s a Dr the same way that Shaquille O’ Neal is a Dr.

By calling her doctor it makes her sound more credible. This is all scripted.

No, she's not. They're attempting to assign some "gravitas" to a person who completely lacks it.

The only Ph.D.s who “require” the use of their title are professors dealing with students, but polite people recognize the accomplishment and provide the courtesy of using it.

Then there are people like yourself ....

I never call someone who calls himself “Doctor” based on a PhD a doctor and I do it just to piss them off. It is pretentious and arrogant. If lawyers with Juris Doctorate degrees don’t refer to themselves as “Doctor”, why would one call someone with a PhD in coniferous agdalid infestations in northern South Carolina hemlock populations “Doctor”?

Because a JD (which I hold, btw) requires a mere three years of post-graduate work.

A Ph.D. often consumes twice that.
