In reality, we should have at least 4 major political parties now

It doesn't make any sense to basically only have 2 major political parties at this point.

If we were all being reasonable, the far left, lunatic socialist commmie anarchists should be on one party, the Pelosi-Schumer leftist dem establishment should be one party, the never trumpers and the joe manchins of the world should be one party, and the hardline conservative Trump-loving patriots should be one party.

But it will never change.

All American politicians have to do is look at other countries. Some party may win, and then they have to find a governing partner to actually get anything done.

This way, the communist Bernie's of the world can masquerade as a democrat, while actually being a pure bolshevik, who spent his senate career running as an independent.

You got s 50-50 shot now...why change.

If you wanna see things get really fricked-up .... wait until there are more than two or three major parties in this country.

Right now we have caucuses.

The problem is not with the political parties, they are what they are.

The problem is with our educational system and the MSM. Both of those, as they are right now, are cancers to this country.

That's what we are now, we need more options. The worst thing to happen to this country was the adoption of the 2 party system. Either have no parties or multiple. Not just 2.

There is no big money for politicians to personally benefit from off of "offshoot" parties. There's your real reason for just the two parties we have. The closest I've seen to a third party having a semblance of making any waves was whatever party Ross Perot called himself. You're not going to be a viable third party when you wait until 10 months before the general election to make yourself known.

There will never be more than two major parties in America because our system is a Single member district plurality system.

It’s not a bad thing. Go study proportional representation and how those European governments have to form coalitions to sit an executive branch of leadership. It allows for a tiny party to become essentially a swing vote and weld enormous power.

There are just factions within each party... People always say we should have more than 2 major parties ,but it is not always better. Take Germany for example they have multiple parties and are struggling to form a coalition Government and will have real problems next election cycle when the Green Party and the AFD get more percentage of the votes. Everyone has vowed not to work with the AFD ,but they will overtake the SPD and be the second largest party and the CSU/CDU is on the verge of fracturing ,because Bavaria is tired of Merkel's shite. So again multiple parties are not always better. We do have the Libertarian and Green Party, but they can't get their shite together and come up with a reasonable platform and/or candidate that would gather more support to where they could become competitive and ultimately viable in a Presidential Election. Gary Johnson is in between an idiot and a retard ,and Jill Stein essentially supports eco-terrorist groups. I see what you are saying about Bernie using the Democrat Party as cover ,but Trump did the same thing. Trump is essentially a JFK Democrat and has jumped on the the Republican Party ,because it was being run by idiots and the Democrats have gone too far left so that is how he won ,by picking up the sane reasonable voters that the Democrat Party left behind. The problem with Bernie is his whole socialism shtick works on a small minority of voters and if the Democrats back him or someone like him they will get crushed.

The only way you get more parties is if the powers that be decide we should have more parties, in which case, it's a sham.

If it doesn't occur in the face of a popular revolt or uprising, you can go ahead and bet its just more establishment bullshite.

Even that wouldn’t happen

The only way to have more parties is to completely change our structure of government to proportional representation.

You don’t want it.

Think about what it really means

Dems have 48 percent of Congress. Repubs have 48 percent and Crazy AOC creates a GREEN NEW DEAL party that somehow pulls at least 3 percent.

Both parties now need her to form a functioning Congress. And not only that, once she picks a side she can at anytime flip flop to the other side. So you have to keep her happy and capitulate to her wants or the other side will.

You are essentially giving a party with 3 percent of the vote power over the entire process.

I don’t want our government to depend on a freaking blowing in the wind swing vote of a small minority

This isn’t Survivor

Btw way,

Not only does her party now have in-proportionate power, her group now can actually grow because they have that power and incentive

Proportional representation is why European countries have so many weird fringe political groups with staying power

It’s not the hipster thing to say anymore but our founding fathers really were geniuses of their time to foresee this stuff and set up a government structure that forces slow methodical government change from within one of two main political parties and keeps radical fringe groups on the fringe.

Single member district plurality, a bicameral Congress with two distinct makeups, and an electoral college.

These things keep us from having crazy upheavals. They didn’t happen on accident. They did all that on purpose.

We made a 1/2@$$ attempt at 3 a few years ago. That (and Ross Perott) gave us the Clintons.

We don't need any more of results like that!

If you want to see if something will work just take a look at where it's been tried. The countries in Europe have more than 2 parties. How's it working out for them?

So wish we would/could at least try term limits.
Curious to see how the power would flow under such laws.

Me too. When term limits came up in the 1970s one of the arguments against it:
'We wouldn't have any great statesmen.'
'Like who?'
'Well, like Everett Dirksen.'

It's 40 years later. We haven't had any great statesmen like Everett Dirksen since Everett Dirksen.
