Also, apparently, the NAACP filed suit in federal court alleging the State of Mississippi discriminated against Jackson.
All the while they are looking (for the 2nd time) for 1,000,000 in Covid relief money they “”””lost””””. Yea.. let’s just shovel more money into that shite hole.
Only reason they are looking for that “”””lost”””” money is more than likely the DOJ come marching into the state offices threatening with suits and the state said.. “well… we gave them that 1,000,000 dollars in Covid money they haven’t used yet”.
When the DOJ showed back up to the city wanting receipts.. they just just shuffled some paper and then said..”well… wha ha happen wuz..”

COVID money came with a whole host of environmental justice and DEI requirements and loopholes that States had to jump through...
This probably will not end well for MS or Jackson...

MS state govt has their eyes dotted and T’s crossed. That’s why the DOJ isn’t camped out on the Capitol steps with clenched fists yelling “get whitey!!!”
The city has to account for their funds they have been given in good faith. So that’s why the DOJ has filed actions to appoint oversight over the utilities and remove Jackson leadership from it. At least temporarily.
And notice that the DOJ hasn’t filed any actions for the city to provide accounting of the missing money.

If they denied COVID funding to Jackson, MS, it will not matter what kind of documentation they have, the DOJ will jump all over them and prevail because it is Federal money...

That’s it. None has. Jackson wants the majority of the state’s allotment where there are other needs in the state.
Also, the state laid out the money to get the water plant back online. The city wanted “about a billion dollars” and the state got water back in the lines at a quarter million.
And what is STILL forgotten… the city also squandered the tens of millions they received from Siemens on the lawsuit over the water meter fiasco. They blew that money on other things and not the water system.

Oh, I agree with you that the State of MS did the right thing to a point... In my opinion the leadership in Jackson should be being prosecuted for waste, fraud, and abuse at the least...
The issue is, the DOJ is blind to all that and will focus on COVID funds being denied to the city by the State and not much else...

Its a pretty big deal when the Biden administration says the democrat mayor is not qualified to run the water system as they are doing here.
I doubt they will go after the mayor but they clearly see where the problem is.
It is BS that the State had anything to do with it. That is just all talk generated by the NAACP and friends of the mayor.

Exactly. The water system should be MAKING money. Not dying because it’s broke.
I don’t know what they are trying to accomplish with that suit when there is tens of millions that was supposed to be used for the utility from the Seimens settlement and now 1,000,000 in Covid money they squand… err…. Lost.
