So I'll ask again. What does Trump do when Putin makes a move on Lithuania, or issues an ultimatum to Poland?

Lithuania is a sovereign nation, a member of NATO since 2004 and populated by some fiercely freedom-loving SOB's that I seriously can't see putting up with the soft incursions Putin did in Ukraine.

As President Trump and the rest of NATO would be treaty-bound to defend Lithuania from a Russian invasion.

I've asked this question before, and it was ignored. There used to be at least a little serious discussion on the poliboard. That's nearly all disappeared in the last month, to be replaced by slavish cheerleading.

So I'll ask again. What does Trump do when Putin makes a move on Lithuania, or issues an ultimatum to Poland? Send a strongly-worded tweet? Trump may think he and Putin are friends. Putin just sees him as an intelligence asset to be discarded when he's not longer useful.

You didn't ask a serious question so don't expect a serious answer. You've become so accustomed to the President being played like a fool that you can't fathom a president who's alpha enough to not get played.

I agree. I'm not a cheerleader. Not even a Trump supporter or voter. But I do my best to still remain objective.

Hopefully, he would ask European leaders to establish their own defensive strategy and offer American support to THEIR LEAD. A united Europe with American support. Not Americans leading with Europe wringing their hands in the background. I agree with you on Putin's view of Trump though.

quote:

Russia's middle east adventures notwithstanding, the real end game with Putin is expansion into territories he sees as traditionally Russian, and a Russian influence and agenda setting in Central and Western Europe. He wants European leaders looking to Moscow, not Washington. And he may get what he wants in the next four years

If he's able to accomplish what you say in 4 years then more power to him. Because it will mean that Europe basically turtled over in the face of their opposition. If they have no desire to defend their own lands, why the hell should we defend them for you. I'm not saying bail on them or NATO entirely, but frick, just carry some more weight. It's their land. If they show the will to actually fight, instead of just calling more meetings for another UN resolution, then I support us backing them.

You're the worst poster on multiple boards. Quite a feat. Maybe some life changes are needed?

Not so fast. Remember this from last summer?

quote:

Asked about Russia’s threatening activities, which have unnerved the small Baltic States that are among the more recent entrants into NATO, Mr. Trump said that if Russia attacked them, he would decide whether to come to their aid only after reviewing if those nations have “fulfilled their obligations to us.”

I don't believe you.

10,661 posts per year says otherwise.

But I digress. Your side needs to make up your mind on this. Is Russia a threat or not? The biggest problem with your speculating is youre doing so from the views of our current, weak leadership. All of these global political challengers, namely Russia, Iran, China, have been emboldened by your weak, community organizing president.

I'm always amazed how you more evolved, intelligent left wingers are never even smart enough to figure out basic, common sense concepts because you are so busy trying to find "gotcha" moments by taking every word literally. Trump wasn't trying to say we weren't going to defend our NATO allies or that we were going to pull out. He was sending the message that your days of freeloading are over, and you're going to start paying your share as we all agreed.

You're making the same mistake the media made. Trump supporters took him seriously but not literally. The media (and you, at least going by this response) took him literally but not seriously.

We can parse what he said all we want, but I firmly believe that if Russia invades a NATO nation under a Trump Presidency we and the rest of NATO will be going to war with Russia.

To turn this around a bit... what other choice would we have? Another Treaty of Versailles? Maybe negotiate with Putin the way Clinton did with Kim Jong-Il? Or do the whole lot of nothing but talk Obama did when Putin went into Ukraine?

Do you seriously believe anyone on this board knows the answer to your question?

Shouldn't your question be, "What do you want Trump to do?"

quote:

Russia is moving its newest generation of mobile nuclear missile into Eastern Europe.
The "Eastern Europe" you refer to is Russian soil, Kaliningrad, not some eastern European country bordering Russia.

Serious answer: we don't know. He won't be president until Jan.

You seem to be missing the point others have made. you forget who is president while this taking place.

I'll put forth that as much as you libtards want to say Putin and Trump are friends it would only make sense that he would wait. Instead he is doing this while a nutless guy is in office.

Russia's middle east adventures notwithstanding,
Why do you leave this out???

And he may get what he wants in the next four years.
And he may. We don't know right now so you Trump hating fatass broad loving SJW libtards are wasting your time trying to predict the future.

Perhaps putting blame on the current administration for what has gone to shite in the last 7 3/4 years + what is happening right now idiot,

History lesson: Ballistic missile defense was a Reagan (remember him?) initiative. Russia viewed this purely defensive measure as a provocation, and apparently still does. Moreover, the poliboard consensus has apparently come around to the Russian viewpoint. I wish Kubrick was still around. There's a hell of a movie to be made about these times.

You're the one who needs the history lesson. Missile defense IS a provocation. The Russians were correct and we knew it. It creates a scenario for American first strike that circumvents MAD retaliation.

I posited during the 80s that the best solution would be for both nations to have Missile Defense programs that would not only make 1st strike unappealing but also prevent an exchange caused by accidental launch.

The Russian PALs system was not nearly as good as ours so accidental launch by the Russians was/is a real fear.
