Seems like a natural progression. You are older and wiser than before, and the Democrats are predictably entering the Social Democrat phase, leading to full Socialist Party in a few years. It is time to make the switch. I did, when this sucking vortex of the Left started showing their colors, some years ago. Hopefully, you will go full R in the future, but I kinda like right leaning I's too.

I was raised a democrat, but flipped to independent 25 years or so ago. I generally vote 3rd party, but have voted for democrats / republicans. I will be voting for democrat for governor (the republican is fricking insane), and then 3rd party for everything else.
