If you give your mail-in ballot to a friend to drop off - you didn't vote

Aren't there several states that are 100% vote by mail?

Washington is.

Here is a summary of why we should not be the standard.

re: If you give your mail-in ballot to a friend to drop off - you didn't vote
Another problem is the logistics of receiving, opening and counting on time

If Nov 3 is voting day

then when do the ballots need to be mailed in by in order for our results to be known on Election day?

or that tradition gone too?

what if the ballot arrives a day late?

will people cry "disenfranchised" my vote wasn't counted

then it will be a cry about the delivery of the ballot...

surely they would still let people vote in person...

so how would they track whether that person voted twice?

what a train wreck...

keep it simple

Sure there are some.

But that doesn't make it a best practice.

A very good point by Scott Adams about the nature of voting by mail

A point that would apply equally to absentee voting.

Trump has absentee voted by mail multiple times in the past. Do you think he licked the stamp/used the postage meter and put it in the mailbox himself, or did he have an employee do it?

Not sure where I signed up for the Al Gore plan.

Personally, I think if you fight for your country and your vote should count, so I guess you and I disagree.

Completely agree.

Didn't say you did but it shows how some ballots could be indiscriminately not counted. Postal workers have been caught dumping mail they didn't want to deliver, or ballots in one state showing up in a different state. "Mistakes" happen.

Agree,

but absentee voting should always be a narrow exception and never the rule.

Those who take part in absentee should be aware of the risks and that they are using an inferior product.

Could it? Absolutely. Does it? Not in a statistically significant way.

I think this is a misfired attempted deep thought by the cartoonist. Again, neither Trump nor the service member actually puts it in the mail themselves, an employee or the service member in mail duty collects the mail and drops it off. But obviously you would say both Trump and the servicemen voted.

That’s a strangely honest article.

quote:

Republicans argue this system is ripe for fraud. They’re right: Unless you have enough time to set up the system, to make it secure, it can very easily be exploited. And there are legitimate concerns over ballot harvesting (though both sides use it; it should be illegal). Here in Washington, the state just sent hundreds of millions of dollars to fraudulent unemployment scammers in Nigeria. You don’t think nefarious forces could take advantage of an untested mail-in ballot system in a state that’s never done much beyond absentee voting? This is all political for the Democrats

If you want the honest truth out here, you follow Todd Herman and Jason Rantz. Back when he still had his show, Saul Spady as well, but he melted down on the air and was replaced.

re: If you give your mail-in ballot to a friend to drop off - you didn't vote
the point, which is obvious except to you,

is that the mail by vote process involves ceding part of one's political power to another. When you deliver your vote in person at the designated place and time, you exercise your full political authority.

When you hand it off, even to the postal service, you cede part of your political authority to another.

For some of us, that's a special thing that we don't want to simply give away.

If they want to move to vote by mail, the ballot better come with a full fingerprint kit, cross referenced against your actual fingerprints, with a hard signature.

Actually, all voting should include your fingerprint, either in person or absentee. It is the only thing you can't fake easily and you can't claim minorities don't have fingerprints.
