He’s by far the best speaker and most in command of facts on the stage. But he can never win the minority vote. Too bad for him.

I disagree.

You’re right. I guess what I mean is, he is the best debater but what got him on that stage (his being gay) essentially disqualifies him from winning the nom.

He is. Hands down. He also knows how to use examples to make his point with a emotional character.
Every statement is made, then followed by "this kid I met", "this man I talked to", "these farmers who lost their job".
He knows how to draw emotion into his statement well and that always plays well to crowds.
