Why don't I know anyone that knows anyone that caught Covid?

Living in Arkansas it hasn't been bad here, but in past years I can point at 2 dozen friends that caught the flu.

Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist, but common sense tells me some frickery is afoot.

I'm not a doctor, so feel free to poke holes in my thinking.

Because you live in Arkansas and nobody wants to be around y'all.

shite, I wish that were true. I live near the Bentonville square. That's ground zero for people moving in. It's early Austin, Nashville type shite.

well as a nurse I have cared for flu patients and covid patients. I caught covid but have not caught the flu from patients. I will say from my perspective covid is more contagious but does not warrant all of this fear we have seen. I am for completely opening up the economy. The way this should have been handled is to quarantine the sick and the healthy should have stayed at work.

Probably because flu season starts every year in the fall with a headstart of millions of cases, and over the course of 6 months of going about our business about a fifth of the country ends up with the flu at some point. Covid started at only a handful of cases just a couple months ago, and we have NOT been going about our business as usual.

What did you say about common sense?

Correct, they sent us all to the same place. Walmart.

This is the exact opposite of a quarantine.

Common sense.

Here's me walking all over Walmart everyday, buying one item at a time with no mask.

They're younger and survived

Is it though? You know 2 people.

I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but I know a lot more than 2 people that catch the flu every year.

If this is the most contagious virus of all time you should know more than 2, and I should know more than zero. You're kind of making my point if you think about it.

But it's not, and no one is saying it is!

Edit: It's probably about as contagious as the flu. And if the flu would start at case #1 in like January, you wouldn't know anybody with the flu either.

Overreaction to the fact that it's roughly 5X as deadly as the flu.

ETA: Dipshit.

Yes

It's one of the dumbest things ever. Your personal experience has little to do with the rest of the world. On this and every other issue under the sun.

Wrong.

At this point it's a bit higher than yearly flu death totals, and there's plenty of examples of Covid death totals being inflated.

The fact is that Covid hasn't had time to even be sorted out yet shows you're name is Karen.

It's going to take time to figure out what's what.

My original point is non scientific, but is a valid point. You're trying to come across as scientific, but provide no evidence.

If you want to chat from a real world perspective, cool. If you want to get scientific, cool. Back your shite up with data.

No. It's a stupid observation from one stupid person and it means nothing.

Sure, but when every other person has the exact same observation it's probably reality.

This thing was never as bad as the measures we took.

If you're 70 plus and want to stay home you're probably wise.

Welcome to flu season.

The only difference this year is a CNN death ticker.

Uh yeah, in 6 weeks under lockdown, not 6 months with no lockdown. Are you pretending there's no difference?

But not really. There are actually more reasons to believe the real numbers are even higher.

So it hasn't had time to be sorted out yet, and you still wonder why you don't know a dozen people who have had it?

You're in fricking Arkansas, dude. There are only 3500 confirmed cases there. Odds are you actually do know someone who has had it, you just don't talk to that person regularly enough to know. But probably just one person, maybe two. If you knew a dozen of those 3500, then something would be off.

You're trying to come across as scientific
I don't think I've said a single "scientific" thing in this thread.

Real world perspective: 1 in 1000 people in Arkansas have been confirmed covid positive. Can you figure out why you don't know dozens of them?
