You aren't adding tariffs to combat tariffs, You are adding tariffs to level the playing field in terms of global standard of living so companies can't lay off domestic workers and price shop for the cheapest unit of slave labor.

I'm sorry that you don't see the difference between those two points.

Being a Free Market Capitalist, I will be happy to explain it to you for $500 an hour! I'm a good teacher but even so, hopefully for me you still won't get it after a couple 100 hours of tutoring!

So you support the tariffs? Well, my original question still stand. If 25% is good for the US, why not make it more?

Nothing raises global standards of living like taxing exports from developing countries!

It's an awful idea for the US, but too many people believe Trump is infallible to actually criticize him.

I've asked you a few times, but I'll ask again, why stop at 25%? What's another $200 in the purchase of a car if it means US steel is that much more competitive?

Both tariffs and Min wage are worthless.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

In football, grabbing the facemask is wrong and harmful. Therefore, a penalty is assessed. 15 yards. But it could also be 65 yards, right? But for some reason 15 works. But even then, people still do it

So in the trade world, sometimes countries cheat. You can set the penalty at whatever amount you want, but acting like there should be no penalty, AT ALL, is assinine

So again, why not make it 50%?

Alternatively, why penalize the entire commodity across the board? Explain to me how Canada is cheating as the #1 provider of steel and aluminum imports to the US.

Because numbnuts, if the facemask penalty was 65 yards, then you basically just gave the other team the game

If you set the tariffs TOO high, then US steel because a govt protected monopoly, with no competition, and looks to make bank by breaking the economy

At 25%, Canada can still sell, but cant undercut US companies and workers. And that 25% will be negotiated down, so that US steel wont go batshit crazy with pricing

So 25% is the equilibrium where the benefit to the US steel industry equals the detriment to the US consumer?

I know, right?

How convenient that the tariff on steel is 25% and the tariff on aluminum is 10%? It's perfect.

25% is a negotiation tactic, and may not even happen if NAFTA is renegotiated

Tards will tard

If the democrats are chomping at the bit to raise the corporate tax rate back to 35% (and they are), why not make it 70%?

We'll see. At the moment, that's the proposal and it's reasonable to be concerned with it.

Two entirely different arguments, but you knew that already.

I hate both, fwiw.
