The Pulitzer Prize committee recently bestowed their award for distinguished musical composition to Kendrick Lamar, crediting his record DAMN as “virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.”
“Humble,” the most popular and praised song from DAMN makes the following contribution to the American songbook:

Incredulity towards high-status awards is good, at least in the context of what is high-status in our world. Eventually, people put on their glasses, and see the forest through the trees. The denigration of high culture/art is what leads to actual high culture and art, prompted by disgust.
