I sure am glad that we are raising tariffs on Canadian lumber

Prices weren't nearly high enough already IMO. Good decision-making, Joe.
The USA has plenty of timber that is cheap but the USA lost about 100 mills between the great recession and now. Current mills can't find workers because they are being paid to stay home so what do we do? Double tariffs on the second-largest timber exporter in the world.
If you cant see by now that they want to eliminate any semblance of a middle class by killing our economy and killing small businesses then you either aren't paying attention or have to have someone tie your shoes for you.
They want the middle class wiped out. Why do you think Obama and now Biden is pushing so much to force new real estate developments to allocate a percentage of homes for low-income families? They want to lower your property values. They don't want you to make money off of your house anymore. They know housing is a wealth builder for the middle class. They want lumber to be high so you have to build smaller or buy an older existing house.

Watch out----lots of folks here love tariffs!!! Trump and the democrats in his administration sold them on tariffs. Trump and Biden are both tariff lovers.
"Only American saw mills should sell lumber here" they will say. "Canadian saw mills are taking American jobs!!" they will shout.
They are incapable of understanding the jobs that are created from imported inputs.

Lowes and Home Depot win bigly in this. My advice is buy from a local supplier if possible, we have a few here in Nola I do business with.

I want to be mad but prices of commodities/property going through the roof is doing nothing but making me more money. Even with inflation my assets will balloon right up with it.

You are being disingenuous. Strategic tariffs make perfect sense and you know it. What Trump did to equal out unfair trade deals was smart and strategic. It worked.
Doing this to Canadian lumber right now is dumb and makes no sense strategically.

My position is the same---I am against tariffs on Americans. You seem to be for them when Trump punishes us with tariffs but against them when Biden wants to do the same thing.
Protective tariff for US saw mills are no different than protective tariffs for US steel mills.
No way you would have gone along with the tariffs Trump put on Americans had it been Biden doing the same thing.
BTW we gained not a single thing from Trump tariffs---our trade deficit remains huge.

Again, you are being disingenuous. You can't compare how steel mills were killed off in the USA vs sawmills.
Why do sawmills need protection currently? Timber is cheap and plentiful while lumber prices set a new ATH every day and the demand hasn't stopped. They are making money hand over fist right now.

I got lucky and did several remodels in 17-18. All were lumber heavy jobs but what I got done just a few years ago for 45k would cost well over 6 figures today. This shite is crazy.

Trump's tariffs were aimed strictly at China after years of being arse rammed by them. It was going to take time to see the benefits but of course you probably already know that. Biden's going to continue being arse rammed by China and he's gonna do it without even getting a courtesy reach around.
