I remember once again how I felt 46 years ago watching this fiasco in Kabul ...

...I spent 55 weeks in the RVN back in 1968-69. We lost many from my units, either through injury or death. I still remember many who gave all. I left confused and somewhat puzzled at what our leadership was trying to accomplish in that country.
The Government gave the South Vietnamese Army what they needed to fight their own battle. The thing they didn't anticipate was that the ARVN would be fighting their own.
How could the Pentagon not see what happened 46 years ago and learn from the past? I'll tell you why...they were more concerned about making themselves and the Biden administration look heroic (by bringing everyone home by 9/11) than doing having a logistically solid plan for evacuation.
I have been watching what has transpired in Kabul and Kandahar the last 72 hours and just shake my head. I empathise with the Afgahn vets as they too watch this SNAFU. Flash back to Saigon 1975. GOD, please save us from this lunacy!

Thank you for your service
This was going to be a political move for Biden/Swamp to say he was the one that removed us from Middle East by waiting for 9/11... It bit him in the arse

Just like Vietnam.
I heard a gentleman from 10th mountain say "the suits not the boots lost the war".
So true.
You guys did your jobs.
Politicians and State Department idiots shite the bed.

War is for the banks and the defense contractors. These shitbags added a side dish of American embarrassment and loss, exactly what they wanted.

In this day and age, why would anyone join the military? You're at the mercy and whims of a president that can send you to your death anywhere on this globe.

Because they feel like they don’t have any better options.

I used to say thank you for your service but now I say thank you for staying alive and taking care of your buddies. There are those in this country that do not deserve your service. Taking care of your friends in combat and yourself and trying your best to get them home to us that love them in spite of our idiot politicians is what I am thankful for. God bless you and God Speed to those that were lost. Lest we never forget them.

As usual, soldiers did their job and were failed by generals and politicians.

More likely, a President who will send you into military conflict completely hamstrung from completing the mission putting you and your fellow soldiers at heightened risk. Then, when that same POTUS takes heat at home for the failed military engagement, you come home to the US (if you've lived) to see you and your fellow soldiers completely vilified for the failure and for US involvement at all.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

The Pentagon and DC have banned history books seemingly.

Generals are just politicians in uniforms. Nothing less.

Washington warned us in his farewell address to avoid foreign adventures and to avoid foreign alliances. His admonition 223 years ago was prescient. We should try strive to listen and take it to heart.
We are a republic, not an empire and we should start acting like one.
