Williams' bio of HL won the Pulitzer, it's the standard text

FDR won in '32, Huey was shot in '35

There are all sorts of rumors... One is Huey planned to run against FDR in '36 and weaken the Dems so the Republican would win, then run himself in '40 and get elected (that's forward planning!)

Glad he helped build up LSU football, but there is a chance we live in a communist USA had he lived IMO

I took THarry Williams' history class a year or so before he retired - my favorite class of all college classes! One of the best biographies ever written!

And it’s the definitive. One of the best political bios ever.

Would've been much better for LA overall if he'd truly shared the wealth and built NSU (say) into a top tier liberal arts school to go along w/the cow college in BR

The ONLY book to read on Huey Long is....
Huey Long by T. Harry Williams.

It won a Pulitizer Prize for non fiction.

Excellent read.

“Kingfish,” if my old memory serves me well......

ALSO, circa ‘80’s, (NOT Huey Long, but Edwin Edwards) is another good read on Louisiana “Long inspired” politics.... “The Last Hayride....”

I also read the book in college in a course. I wanted to read it because I loved politics. I read 2 on Huey and one on Earl Long. Huey was not shot over running for President, but, over local family politics. That Dr. that shot him had his son-in-law lose his job over opposition to Huey. Local political hatred.
