Thought I'd spin this off. If I could genuinely influence the black players in the NFL and the NBA(and other sports really(and black entertainers), I would tell them. Look, if you really want to make an impact and save the lives of tons of young black men, you can absolutely do it. FAR better than any politician black or white. Many of you come from the most challenged communities. And, the young men and women in those communities respect you.

I submit that if the accepted paradigm in these communities shifted even to a 20% greater emphasis on education than exists today, you'd save hundreds if not thousands of lives annually. Especially cumulatively over time as your efforts become ingrained.

And these kids don't need scholarships. The kid who can't read in the 7th grade isn't going to be helped because you dropped $100K into some scholarship fund for disadvantaged students. These kids need you THERE and they need help YOUNGER.

With that in mind. Contemplate these numbers.

If only black NFL and NBA players chose tomorrow to direct 1% of their salaries(plus time) to this effort, we are talking about $46.5M annually.

$46.5M that can hire tutors in tough communities. Can help local educated blacks to have the ability to help their own. Couple that with you showing up in those communities and constantly talking about the new assets you help put in place.

Go make a huge fricking deal out of the kid who graduated 6th grade with straight As.

Work with your leagues to start bombarding people with PSA type of information designed to glorify student success. Turn it into the kind of thing that gets attention all the time in these came communities that TODAY, make fun of the smart kid.

And commit to it long term. Not some 1 month thing called "Education month" or shite like that. Be SERIOUS about it.

If you sucked at school. Say so. Tell kids how it harms you even with your millions.

I could go on.

This thread really isn't even just for black players because I find it frustrating in general how so many people who preach on and on about "caring about kids"........people who sit in huge positions of influence..........do jack shite in this arena.

The families would have to buy into it. Not sure they would at first but it could happen. Make it where getting an education is what's best for them to be successful and get out of the poverty cycle and reduce crime.

These guys can help kids by going to their school and handing out some reality. Uless you plan on being 6'7" and want to work your arse off, the NBA ain't happening for you. I cannot tell you how many kids in schools all plan to go to the NBA, but couldn't spell NBA if you gave them the N and the A.

They don;t even play rec, AAU, or school ball, but the NAB will come calling soon. It's a pipe dream that they don't understand is real.

They need to visit elementary schools an enforce reading as a priority.

BLM is a racist, anti-police, Democrat Party front.

BLM and the NFL kneelers are not interested in improving the lifestyles of your normal law-abiding black American. They get to showboat for free. Don’t expect more than that.

Their premise was wrong from the start IMO.

Isolating your problem specifically to being black was the first issue. Had they been at least somewhat intelligent in creating this whateveritis, they would've included people of all walks of life.

But now it comes across as cop hating delusional thug lovers. Plus, those at the top of this organization are profiting while the minions are the ones marching in the streets getting run over by cars.

Carry on my wayward son.

I'm sort of using BLM in a far more general sense for the purposes of this thread.

But, I agree. Perhaps I should change the terminology.

You have some really good ideas and observations. Unfortunately, too many people's thoughts never extend past their own wants and desires. Extreme selflessness and self-centeredness is the problem. Many of the people in a position to help don't have the desire to do so.

Would be huge. Unfortunately, you can’t rely on the parents to really take an interest in making sure their kids understand the material.

Why does everything boil down to money? You can pay for all the torturing that you want too ,but it will not account for terrible parenting and fatherless homes. Look at the numbers between fatherless homes in between Black, White, Hispanic, and Asian families and then compare it to the median household income by each race and tell me you don't see a correlation. Same goes for incarceration rates it is the same. Money does not replace a strong male figure in the household and that is what is lacking. Personal responsibility and discipline will be the only thing that brings the majority of the black community out of poverty ,and to be honest that is a personal choice that everyone has to make. NFL and NBA players are better suited to donate their time to reach young kids from rough neighborhoods. Until personal responsibility and accepting consequences for your actions are widely accepted nothing in society will change.

It’s your post, so take it where you wish.

However, in the risk of , the look at me professional black sports stars are not really interested in improving their fellows life if it really costs something. Kneeling and interviewing are free and self aggrandizement. Spending real time and money is not their MO.

Plus in my opinion, they care about the racism and anti-cop aspects of Black Lives Matter, and they don’t care about the lives of black Americans.

It's a great idea, but assholes like Colin Kaepernick have made a whole new career out of "look at me", as well as 90% of Democratic politicians. You start solving problems and you take the lobster out of rich Dems' mouths.

1. Don't have children out of wedlock.

2. Don't get arrested.

3. Graduate high school

4. Raise their children to do the same.

It's the 4 step program that has lifted millions of people of all races out of poverty. If you don't know or are unable to follow the secret to a secure, middle class life you are willfully ignorant, brainwashed, or purely antagonistic to society.

It's like you didn't even read my whole post.

Well, ya know. If all I said was "pay for tutors" and left it at that, you'd have a point.

That's kinda the entire point of like half of my OP.

Absolutely. Which, are things that the players could also add to their PSA barrage.

I simply am referring to things that these so-called caring individuals can directly do.

They can't force a woman to not frick.

But, they can try to shift the paradigm on education which would likely lead to

Less getting arrested

More graduating

And thus, more people who know what right looks like and raise kids the same.

It wouldn't happen overnight. But it sure beats bloviating without influencing.

Another thing that need to be preached is not everyone will make it to the NFL,NBA, or major recording artist and it's ok to work you way up to management at Autozone or WalMart. It's ok to learn how to repair ACs, weld, fix cars, cut grass, and other trades. You don't have to be a millionaire to be successful in life, you just have to work hard and make smart decisions.

This will do nothing... You will essentially light a stack of cash on fire by doing this. You glossed over my post and the point is until there is an honest assessment from the black community about what the real problems are and addressed mainly fatherless homes among black families. UNTIL this is addressed nothing will happen and pooling money together to pay for tutors will not do a dam thing. I do however agree that you need to get prominent black men from the community to try and help ,but even still without that figure in the home each day it is virtually useless. It is also an attitude shift where I also agree with you ,but not having that strong male in the household will again do nothing. Again it comes down to personal responsibility and accepting consequences for your actions. I do not disagree with much of your post ,but until the root cause of the problem is addressed pooling money together will do nothing. Outreach will have limited impact. These athletes standing behind the BLM movement is counterproductive ,because it is built on deceit and false narratives which does not promote personal responsibility ,but victimhood.
