It appears to have dropped 25% or more locally for me in NC.

That would be good news for construction.

I don’t know an exact percentage but The lumber cost for a shed/shop project came in about 250.00 less than I had budgeted.

Was glad to see it.

ETA. Budgeted 800. Came in at 550

2x4s seem to have dropped 50% in my area.

I always look at 2x4 prices. It is a habit.

We just changed out our shower and needed a few studs to scab in the new shower. I am thinking 2x4 studs had gotten up around $8. I paid $5.55 for the few I needed. I don't think pressure treated stuff has come down quite as much.

Its was a matter of time they started dropping because our local lumber store had the worst month (April) in sales since they opened in 1999. No one was buying and waiting it out.

I have about 8 massive pine trees that when down on my property because of Ida. I'm seriously considering buying a portable saw mill and cut them into lumber. But I don't know if it's worth my time. I like the idea but time is a big issue for me right now. I just hate to see all that potential lumber go to waste. It's like killing a deer and not eating the meat.

Is supply going up, demand dropping, or both?

I know a lot of home improvement projects and home building is likely put off or reduced in scope due to the issues.

God forbid someone buy a DH Horton home with lumber prices the way they were.

For me it is OSB. We went from $46 a sheet to $15

What is still high as hell are trim boards and prime #1 lumber.

damn. you're right!! it's down to 7.78 a sheet here (7/16).. it peaked somewhere around 30-35 bucks. need to load up for all the projects I was putting off!

ETA. that was for 2'x4' unfortunately. 4' x 8' is 15 here as well. but suddenly twice as expensive as it was seems like a deal.

Damn. Where at? Are you sure that is a 4x8 sheet and not the 2x4 project board? That is literally half price of everywhere I have looked.

ETA: I see your edit. OK that makes more sense

I spent most of last week hauling logs to a friends mill. The only reason I went that route was that he has a kiln. I didn't want to wait for lumber to cure naturally.

Harbor freight does have a decent hobby mill.

I think it was always a capacity problem at the mill. I think demand has been steady if not increased but I am guessing the capacity increase is outstripping the demand rise.
