Honestly, it might work the first week or two, but I think by week three they'll realize what a massive mistake it was.
Until a heavily armed and armored group of individuals decide to hit a bank or other target, clean it the frick out and the National Guard is still ~8 hours from scrambling to respond.
The police exist as a response to violence, if there was zero need for them they would have been abolished a long time ago. Let them do it, let them live with it so we don't have to have this absolutely idiotic argument every two years when one of the millions of police encounters ends in some black guy's death and is sensationalized by the media.
