Market forces?

Turn the shite off until it hurts the pocket book?

How do you lure people of character into this once distinguished profession?

It can't be repaired because the media isn't the problem.

Is actually CAUSING the problem.

People of character can't gain market share.

The reality is simple. There cannot be and there will never again be a reasonably unbiased media source of consequence.

And, frankly, this is not as bad as one thinks.

The "cure" has never rested at the networks anyway.

If there ever will be a "cure"(which I kinda doubt) that cure will be that eventually, individuals will understand that you digest what is given you from a variety of sources..........and THEN, you go see what you can find out from source material.

For example. You read 3 stories telling you about some economic situation. Well guess what. The source data is out there. Go read the source data.

Or, the media tells you that blacks are harmed by the police at a disproportionate rate. Well. If you know how to calculate such things, you can do it yourself and then.......blammo, turns out your friendly journalists along with the scam artists suck at stats.

The CURE is for people to FINALLY figure out that the media simply provides the subject matter. It's up to YOU to actually analyze it.

And, if you can't, then all the non-biased media in the world won't solve it anyway.

Media can be ignored.

Starvation and exposure do wonders for a person's outlook.

It’s all entertainment at this point, and it will never be fixed.

Probably the closest thing we’ll ever have again to real news is blogging and podcasts.

It doesn't.

The idea that we need someone to explain things to us is archaic.

There has to be a penalty for puttingniut false informayion. They are irresponsible and should have to be able to prove their sources or pay the price.

Great response, though depressing.

The majority of our fellow citizens are too lazy to distill the truth from a variety of sources. And their vote counts just the same as yours.

I agree with a lot of your post. Particularly your prescription for individuals on how to deal with a broken media: use multiple sources and go to the source data.

That said, the media still serve as agenda setters. If you only go to the source material on the items the media reports on, they are still very much influencing WHAT you think about; even if they don't so much control HOW you think about it.

I work in media.

People like my Hot AC and AC and Classic Hits radio stations.

They like my morning teams, occasional contests etc.

You guys just like to bitch about the media and then you will get in you cars and turn on a radio station.

The liberals got media power by demanding ( and getting ) the program director changed to someone of their liking.

Republicans don't do this.

It will reform itself when it begins to feel the same pain it puts out there . A healthy society would push back very, very hard .

It all starts at the universities. When even a deep south school like LSU has a super majority of liberals in mass comm thats what will go out to the workforce.
