problem. Now Houston has a big Coronavirus ICU problem. Haven’t watched any media today but are they blaming the protests for this?

Here is the article from 3 weeks ago:
“The concern that public health departments across the country have is as we are in the midst of fighting this pandemic, we now have protests that are occurring where the very messages we’ve been putting out about social distancing, wearing facial coverings and doing all the preventative measures are in contrast to how people are coming together,” said Dr. Umair Shah, Harris County’s health director.

The fear of backlash from the mob is stronger than the fear of a potentially deadly virus.

This is where we're at today.

“To be clear, in Houston, the percentage of beds occupied by COVID patients is currently 12.9%. In Austin, the percentage of beds occupied by COVID patients is 10.2%,” Wittman said.

So the hospitals are doing business as usual (which they should be). There’s much more surge capacity available.

Houston is at 97 percent ICU capacity. I am on a physician only board and they confirmed it as true

“During a City Council meeting Wednesday morning, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said 97 percent of the city's ICU beds were filled. A report from the Texas Medical Center (TMC) said 27 percent of those beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients.”

So if the third funeral of Floyd George would have been cancelled black lives would have been saved?

As a resident of Houston, I can assure you this only made up a small # of cases. People have moved on and realized the juice of staying home in your prison isn’t worth the squeeze. Up until last week, the majority didn’t have masks.

Galveston this past weekend was JAM PACKED in the hotels (only to realize it was Juneteenth).

The retard mayor wants to put up a “business shaming board” to out businesses which don’t comply with their stupid mask policy lol

Dems for ya

Only 13% of the total hospitalizations are the Rona.

Yup, article I found stated similarly. Slightly dif stat, but same premise.

The Naysayers will be quick to comment that "only" 27% of the bed usage is due to Covid-19.

The hospitals will probably have to scale back the non-necessary surgeries.

Sucks.

If they hadn’t closed too early, this wouldn’t be as painful financially.

Yes. That’s one hospital and that’s their percentage of ICU occupied by Covid patients.

I'll have to ask the wife, but she did some research on a story in Florida where they were stating that there's an ICU shortage. She researched the numbers, and the hospitals were putting COVID patients in ICU whether they needed ICU care or not. The hospital's bad policy was causing the shortage, not COVID.

The hospital projects an additional 370+ beds in sustainable ICU surge capacity and another 500 in emergency surge capacity. Almost a 65% increase available in the short term. And a 28% increase available for the long-term.

Just read this

“In the Houston region, nearly 600 people are in ICU beds, an all-time high. For patients in general beds, the number is 1,529, another record”

Those numbers don’t look right.

TMC has been 1330 ICU beds.
