Homeless man refuses to move from woman's porch in Los Angeles

This clash between the rights of homeowners and the rights of the homeless is being felt all across the city. As one example, before we moved (i.e. fled in terror) from Los Angeles in 2020, a couple in our neighborhood put their house up for sale, left the keys with the realtor, and moved out of state. Within a matter of days squatters moved into the house and refused to leave. The city refused to evict them. I don't know how it ended up because we moved a couple of months after they did, but I do know that it was a nightmare for our neighbors.

It’s no secret that the cost of living in Los Angeles is sky high. And one man has decided to practically move into an already inhabited home. Shacola Thompson of Van Nuys has been desperately trying to get the LAPD to remove the homeless man, but so far, she’s had no luck. He continues to return and make himself comfortable on her porch.

Thompson lives in the central San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles and is now sharing part of her home with a homeless man — against her will. “I don’t feel safe when I come out here and try to enjoy my coffee or sit and do my yoga,” she told KTLA on Sunday (Sept. 25). She continued, “I had to take up my rug for him not to lay here, but that didn’t stop him. I hope that [the] LAPD will do their job and take this individual away from this community. Take him somewhere so he can be evaluated.”

90% chance she votes blue, 90% chance I DGAF about what she's having to deal with.

Large amounts of capsicum and a water hose could help with that.

Good. They voted for this shite.

Human nature is not kind or pretty. This is only going to get worse.

A firearm would work better...

Step 1: Eliminate all cameras on property

They should get a pit bull and "accidentally" open the door.

Antifreeze smells sweet but is poisonous making it an effective way to permanently remove feral animals.

Sounds great but anything she could do to forcibly remove the homeless guy probably lands her under arrest and in prison.

If that happens, the only charges getting filed will be against her.

Trying to horrify the horror is likely going to be more effective.

True... She will own nothing and like it is apparently hitting a little close to home for her...

Should have given the FBI an anonymous tip that the squatters were January 6 insurrectionists.

This

Plus in Los Angeles, there's a good chance the homeless guy has cousins who are gangbangers. Odds are high they'd come around looking for vengeance for their homie

What about a 6’7” guy who identifies as a dog? Isn’t that a thing out there?

This is what happens when government, and specifically government officials, do not fear their constituency.

I cannot imagine paying taxes to fund a police dept that would not show up to a trespasser at my home and remove them.... it wouldn't have to be that timely... just come get the guy off my porch some time in the next few days?

ETA: It turns out the police have been out there a couple times.

So it's less of a police problem and more of a DA/Correctional problem.

Also another problem people initially blame on police where the root fault lies more with legislators, prosecutors, judges and correctional systems.

Well, she voted for it.

He would be dealing with extremely loud music, the brightest lights available and would be spooked slightly by the racking of my 9mm.

Cali laws on squatters are fricked to begin with, making them ripe for abuse.

Realistically she's just not being creative enough.

She could probably walk down the street and find another homeless man who would get rid of this guy for $50
