I thought he was arrested for actively aiding the code crack / hack. He wasn't arrested for publishing.

If I recall correctly, assange’s charges relate back to the actual illegal hacking as a co- conspirator, including aiding and abetting the act of hacking and/or encouraging it.

Unless it's classified or detrimental to national security, which is why his Kill Switch was also detained. Assange was a conduit for the GRU, and no doubt paid handsomely. So for those of you pounding your chest for Assange, you're also pounding your chest for Russian Military Intelligence.
