JACKSON, MISS. Mississippi Democrats in Tuesday's runoff gave their U.S. Senate nomination to state Rep. David Baria, lining up behind a party stalwart to challenge incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker.

quote:

Many Democratic politicians backed Baria, the state House minority leader and an attorney, over newcomer Howard Sherman. The husband of actress Sela Ward, Sherman voted as a Republican in California and donated to Wicker. Sherman said the donation was an effort to prevent a tea party Republican from winning.

quote:

"I thought the state was ready for something different," Sherman said. "I thought the state was tired of 50th. But they voted for a shepherd of 50th."

quote:

Through June 6, Baria had raised less than $300,000, while Sherman raised $850,000, including $650,000 in loans to himself.

quote:

Sherman — who loaned $650,000 to his own campaign and raised nearly $200,000 by June 6 — had spent considerably more money campaigning than Baria and hired nationally recognized campaign managers.

quote:

I was really excited and clearly I miscalculated," Sherman said Tuesday night. "I thought a state that was at the bottom of every list that matters was ready for change."

Seems like this guy thought he was hot shite and Mississippians were going to anoint him with praise and adulation as he rode in from California.

After he loses, does he show any humility or grace? Nah. Instead he insults the state and its voters for not choosing him.

What a prick.

He may have been a good choice, idk. But it sounds like his attitude and ability to connect with voters was lacking.

Hollywood liberal/prog doesn’t equal southern Democrat. At least not in Miss-uh-sip-uh.

Insulting the state because it wouldn't elect you is the perfect example of why you shouldn't have won in the first place.

So a conservative Republican in CA becomes a liberal Democrat in MS?

Sounds about right.

Mississippi was a Democratic state until Regan and has voted Democrat nearly twice as much as they have Republican (in terms of the presidential race).

Plus, I'm sure all of those poor people in Mississippi are much better off living under Democrats (where the cost of living is significantly higher and they're taxed into submission) than Republicans. Right....

You could take all the poor people out of Mississippi and relocate them to a longstanding, expensive blue state, give them twice the amount they earn now and they'll still be worse off than they were in Mississippi.

WTF happened to the days when candidates lost with a little bit of grace and dignity?

I guess that all went out the window with Hillary.

Saw her in person at Weidemanns in Meridian back in '94, wearing camo pants, a tight black t-shirt, and hiking boots, with her hair up and with zero makeup.

She was still gorgeous.
