After reading this article I'm on board with not having hearings. The hearings will have only two possible functions: Tarnish the reputation of Judge Barrett or, failing that, delay her confirmation until after the election. Screw the Dems. They have no intention of giving her an honest hearing. Full speed ahead to a vote

quote:

Exercising Rights To Delay Senate Action Generally

Speaking at Length — In the absence of a unanimous consent agreement governing time to debate or cloture, a Senator who gets recognized to speak can speak at length.

Objecting to Routine Consent Agreements — Any Senator may object to routine unanimous consent agreements, such as those to adjourn, to recess, to approve the Journal, or to dispense with the Morning Hour. Forcing roll-call votes on routine motions to adjourn or recess would require Senators to come to the Capitol and also prevent the Senate from taking other action during the time that it would take for Senators to come to vote.

New Legislative Day — If the Senate adjourns without a unanimous consent agreement providing for the handling of routine business at the beginning of a new legislative day, a new legislative day starts with the morning hour, a 2-hour period with a number of required procedures. As part of the morning hour, any Senator could make a non-debatable motion to proceed to an item on the Senate calendar.

Raising Points of Order — Any Senator who gets recognized by the Presiding Officer can raise a point of order making a procedural objection. Once the Presiding Officer rules, a Senator can appeal the ruling of the Chair, and Senators can demand a roll-call vote. One could imagine an extremely large number of procedural questions on which to vote.

Filing Cloture — If the Senate is not governed by a unanimous consent agreement or post cloture, a Senator who got recognized could move to proceed to a measure or series of measures and file cloture on the motion(s) to proceed. Two days later, the Senate would be required to vote on the cloture motion(s). The number of these motions is limited only by the number of items on the calendar.

Can the Dems just refuse to show up and vote and she still get confirmed? The Dems don’t have a card to play that isn’t grandstanding. It’s happening and they know it.

McConnell.is going to put her up and call for cloture. No committee hearings.

That means she'll be up for vote the following week at the latest.

That's cute and all...but can't Mitch at any point say "frick it...we're voting tomorrow"?

I could be way off here but I thought he has the power to do this.

If they are going to play this game, then we can skip the hearing and have the vote.

Nothing she says will change and of these idiots’ minds.

Will they pay men and woman to run in with freaking pagers and blood stained painted crotches?

With Barr it was RECLAIMING MY TIME.

This they will be just as rude and make it go on and on. Turtle will bring order.

The dems blew their wad. Even if they burnt down places & got Madonna to say she will bomb the WH...

They are done...

The longer they speak, the more they embarass themselves, maybe let them go

Yes.... as long as he can still get to 50 votes without a traditional hearing process.

Mitch needs to call them out everytime they are grandstanding without asking a question. Also, no reclaiming time like they did with Barr. If they ask a question, shut the senators down until Barrett has had a chance to answer.

This is a hearing, not a political ad.

Or, hell. Just don't have a hearing. It's not like anything said is going to sway Democrats into voting for her.

Personally I am fine either way.

Dear Dems,

You can thank this man. He made it possible.

ACB can handle it.

It is my understanding McConnell can call for a vote at pretty much any time.

Let the Dems embarrass themselves and then pull the plug and vote if necessary.

Yes, but if the D's can get three Republicans to defect and leave the building with them, then there is no quorum and no vote can be held - indefinitely.

You need 51 senators present for a quorum. If all Democrats leave, and coax Collins, Murkowski and one more RINO into joining them, that leaves only 50 senators present.

Media keeps spinning this, put yourself in Collins shoes. 75% of republican voters want this vote now. If she says she will not vote she loses a ton of her constituent votes.....and she will not pick up any dem votes anyway, and she is in a tight race. Its political suicide.
