Here is something I have observed about protests

As a Republican, I think I can answer this.


While I do believe the amount of disrespect directed at president Trump by a certain portion of the liberal populace is at a level never achieved by a certain portion of the conservative populace during the Obama administration, I highly disagree that the Republicans showed Obama nothing but respect. 

Even if there is some truth to the fact that their current disrespect is a bit higher than ours was, we are still extremely guilty of disrespect toward President Obama.

When Obama was president, I couldn’t go a single day without seeing a post on social media that made claims that he was a Muslim, or evil, or not a citizen, or a communist, or calling him Hitler, or saying he hated America, or claiming he was trying to destroy us from the inside etc. The media networks that lean to the left definitely showed him astronomically higher levels of respect than they are showing Trump, but for the right leaning ones its the exact opposite. Heck, back in the day I saw a billboard depicting Obama with Satan horns along the freeway. A billboard with a picture of our sitting president made to look like Satan! While that was a win for free speech, it was a loss of moral character amongst conservatives.


Even if you aren’t talking about the populace, but only the elected officials, I would disagree. Plenty of them kept the “birther” rhetoric alive. Plenty of them accused him of being a Muslim sympathizer. He got interrupted during his speeches. People threw around the word “impeachment.” They did everything in their power to slow his progress. They accused him of taking too many vacations and spending too much money flying his family around (I knew back then that one would come back around and bite them in the butt). They accused him and his administration of causing the murder of one of our ambassadors.

You might say “but all of those things they did were justified.” But the people doing it to Trump now feel THEY are justified. So that doesn’t excuse bad behavior.


Both sides have acted, and are acting, reprehensible. There hasn’t been cooperation for a long, long time. We’ve been name calling and using 1/2 truths since the beginning of the Bush/Clinton era. I can’t even watch the news anymore or read online news because all of it is tainted by political propaganda… on both sides. I still am a conservative and prefer the constitutional ideals they are more likely to represent, but I can’t stand the tactics being used by BOTH sides. They have both been behaving horribly for far too long.

So I might agree that the liberals are being disrespectful toward President Trump, but I do NOT agree that the Republicans showed Obama nothing but respect.
