So esoteric..."there's no such thing as reality"

Trippy dude

How would you define "energy independence"? Substantively, what would that mean to Americans?

All that would happen is American fracking would become disgustingly profitable and we would have a boom in offshore . Bonus for the libs, it would incentive car owners to switch to electric so you only have to pay the high cost to produce electricity and decrease your exposure to crude prices.

If we were “energy independent” your gasoline prices would be through the roof. Almost all of our refineries, especially the big ones, are built to process heavy crude. As we are set up now, we are very far from energy independence.

Specifically that our needs could be met.
The US leadership has no problem using the DIME the past 100 years to ensure it.

A hundred years after WW1, we're still bailing out the French and the British, for fricking up the Middle East

US has had its fingerprints on today's shitshow masterpiece that is the Middle East. America pushed hard after WW2 for the establishment of Israel, America backed Iraqi regimes twice with weapons and twice it has backfired. The US just needs to let this shite work itself out.

Israel doesn't need our help, they just need us to stay out of the way.

How long do you reckon the middle east has been at war for? Spoiler: A long time

They were pretty peaceful with the Ottoman boot on their neck. Even during the long decline when Turkey was known as the "sick man of Europe" most of the open conflict was on their European borders and not what we think of as the Middle East.

At what cost if ME oil went offline? If a bbl oil is $200 and gas is $10/gal, sure some needs would be met but the world economy, our economy would collapse. We cannot insulate ourselves from the international oil market, from international energy needs.

The term is meaningless.

Unfortunately that has not changed much. It’s better but still bad.
