Someone posted this same article soon after it was written and I did a little reading up on the quote by Lincoln.

Several of his advisors and other military leaders wanted him to relieve Grant of his command, but Lincoln valued Grant's results and effectiveness more than his supposed indiscretions, just as we do for Trump. He was pragmatic about it, as are we.
