Hagia Sophia is reconstituted as a mosque; it's no longer a museum

And it seems to be getting less respect.
Some floor tiles broke when someone drove a heavy vehicle in and damage has been done elsewhere.

This probably got no attention from Biden who had visited the Vatican before his meeting with Erdogan.

It was built as a Christian church by Emperor Justinian. This is cultural appropriation.

Why the frick would a building in Istanbul that has no relevance whatsoever to the United States take up any time in a meeting between POTUS and Erdogan?
If anyone gave a shit, it would be Greece or Russia, both of whom Turkey shares historical enmity with and whom they despise deeply. Turkey will do what they want with the building. Let UNESCO throw a shite fit if they want.
There are lots of things to criticize Biden for that actually make sense and are relevant to US interests. This isn’t one of them.

This kind of appropriation is taking place in populist regimes around the world.
Many Istanbulites dislike Erdogan as he is considered too conservative by them. Unfortunately, much of the rest of the country supports him.

Hopefully, you're not referring to Istanbul as a shithole, because its anything but.
Fascinating city, on the contrary.

Might as well because it’s surely not a museum. I stayed 15 minutes tops. Just a big empty space with prayer rugs all over.

Yeah, most in Istanbul only consider themselves nominally part of Turkey. That being said, as my great grandfather was Greek from coastal Turkey.....the only good Turk is a **** Turk.

It does interest me, but I have a lot of question marks in my head about actually living there. I definitely would like to go visit. I think it might be getting a bad rap in a lot of ways. Just sayin'
