Had no idea Chauvin didn’t testify, why?

I didn’t follow the case closely, but someone told me yesterday he plead the fifth. Why didn’t he testify? Scared of “gotcha” questions?

his defense team knows that he will win an appeal. Why get yourself set up for perjury?

"Derek, did it occur to you to remove your knee from the victim's neck as he took his last breath?"

If he answers a question beyond the scope of what the defense wants to get into, he could open himself up to a terrible line of questioning from the prosecutor.

Because that would have been like shooting fish in a barrel. I heard he had something like 18 excessive use of force complaints on his record which would have all been asked about

On one hand, he could've given his side of the story...which COULD have helped him (although his attorneys had already done that but it's different hearing it from the man himself).
On the other hand, questioning from the prosecution would've carved him up...which would've been a nightmare for his defense.
In cases like this, it's usually best to keep the defendant off the stand.

It would not have mattered.....he was cooked before the trial started.

Defense wanted the farce of a trial over ASAP so they can start the appeal. Why waste another day just on trying to trip up Chauvin?

Buyden and Auntie Maxine turned out to be the best defense witnesses he had.

The prosecution would have eaten him alive on the stand regarding his record and with gotcha questions on Floyd’s death. Definitely the right move not to put him on the stand—there was nothing to gain.

Because the prosecution clearly didn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he was guilty. Once that was clear what did chauvin have to gain?
The jury was going to vote how they did no matter what.
