Gwinnett’s (GA) teacher of the year is quitting the school district

“I don’t feel like a teacher very much anymore,” Allen told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I’m just managing behaviors.”
“When the little things don’t matter, nothing matters,” Allen said. Students “see people being tardy all the time and breaking dress code and cussing out teachers and doing these things and think, ‘So why should I take anything seriously?’”
But administrators came down on some teachers because more students were failing than usual, he said.

Department of Education regulations keep our schools from being able to discipline students.
The kids are basically feral after coming back from Covid shutdowns.

Public school needs to die.

This going on across the board in public institutions. The good ones don’t feel supported and get tired of the politics of their job and say…
Then you’re just left with compliant idiots.

There is a complete breakdown of society that’s happening now, and because all people hear is bad news, the feeling of impending doom grows. And when a person has little or no spiritual moorings, that person can become depressed and often turn to drugs and alcohol or simply tune out all together.

It’s gonna have to take trying leadership coming in and enforcing rules. Sure 20%+ of the kids will drop out or fail out but the others will thrive with structure. All it takes is one a-hole in your class to derail it everyday and hold all 20 other kids back from learning. If it takes kicking out all the a-hole kids I’m all for it.
School boards need to give disciplinary power back to teachers.

By special Ed, you mean kids diagnosed with BAD?
We slap disability labels on kids who are just POS.

Teachers and other faculty members are quitting in droves in my area. Basically they’re tired of dealing with the shithead parents who think their little Angel can do no wrong. When they do and get disciplined for it the parents come screaming in yelling racism or discrimination in which the school board needs to get involved. It’s not worth it so now you have shitty teachers left.

What is happening in public schools is a total failing disgrace.
My sister and brother in law are both public school teachers in Cobb county. There is an almost wholesale rejection of accountability, respect, discipline, authority.
My brother in law says standards have been dumbed down to the lowest bar possible. And kids are still failing, in many cases just flat out not doing work or tests.
He said they have been told to pass everyone, regardless of how bad they fail.

Funding is tied to behavioral referral demographics.
Public education is a racket.

This is the case in our local school district.
Anyone who is interested needs to look for their district’s Pupil Progression Plan.
This is a document that outlines the district’s official policies for grading, course credit allocation, and promoting students to the next grade level. There are other issues addressed in this document, too.
For example, in our district, students must receive a minimum of 50% credit for all assignments, even assignments that are not attempted.
No one assignment can be given a point value higher than 100. (This one’s not too unreasonable, imo.)
Additionally, if more than 1/2 of a class or class section (class period like 1st hour, 2nd hour, etc) fails a quiz, test, or assignment, that grade cannot be averaged into the grades for that grading period.
The concept must be retaught.
How do you think older students respond to these policies?
You can bet some of them refuse to do long or challenging assignments knowing they’ll get half the points no matter what.
You can bet groups of kids join ranks to tank a test for which they didn’t study or to annoy a disliked teacher.
When you attend high school graduations this season, know that a solid 40% of those diplomas are empty.
School boards run by superficial, lazy thinkers who do exactly what they are ordered to do by the state department of ed can be thanked for this.
THAT’S why parents visiting school board meetings and bringing up these race-to-the-bottom policies are branded domestic terrorists.

To improve matters, he has suggested that all administrators should spend at least a week in a full or overfull class at a high-needs school. No titles or “suit and tie,” Allen said. They would be substitutes and teachers.
This goes for all industries as far as I’m concerned. Let the C suite people get down in the trenches for a bit

This X 1000.
Trump should have disbanded the DOE, and shite canned “No child left behind,” which is the root of all of this stupidity.

This has certainly carried through the lucrative higher education racket as well. There is no meritocracy in this country anymore, which is why so many people are bad at their jobs.
