Former President George W. Bush: “The decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq. I mean of Ukraine.”

Yeah, you should be called out on that, W, as should Cheney, Rice, and the departed Powell and Rumsfeld. I guess you’ve been having sleepless nights over what you did over there. We should have trials over those lies and sentence you accordingly.

Basically they wanted to do Iraq, and they used 9/11 sort of as a pretext.

How do I know?

Google the percentage of Americans who thought Saddam had a hand in 9/11.

If you believe what people on this board post about the CIA, you get the picture of why that percentage is so high.

Cheney immediately saw the opportunity when we were attacked.

Fast forward to now.

Switch the neocons with the liberals. Switch Saddam Hussein with Vladimir Putin. Switch Iran/Iraq with Russia. Switch Israel with Ukraine.

History really does rhyme.

Crying about war crimes when they murdered and killed at least 500k civilians with bombs and sanctions. Nobody actually knows how high the number went

I’ll admit that I supported the Iraq invasion in 2003-2004.

However, to say that my position has evolved over time would be a gross understatement. Too much blood and treasure wasted on a needless boondoggle that ultimately did nothing but destabilize the region.

The Bush family is a complete fraud and opposite of what conservative thought they were.

I’m also seeing people who constantly berated the war in Iraq cheering for Ukraine.

Anyone with any cursory knowledge of that region knew that removing the lid from that cauldron was worse than what was there with Saddam. But at the time the Muslims were the boogeyman. Now it's Covid and Putin. The point being, there are always a majority of idiots and cowards who believe the lies they're spoonfed.

Obama and NATO made the same mistake in Libya. Got rid of a dictator, then Al-Qaeda ran roughshod through Algeria, Mali, Niger, Mauritania, really almost all over northern fricking Africa.

Yep, Sadam was a lot of things, but he was absolutely not a Jihadist. Matter of fact, he had many Christians in his highest advisory group; seemed to prefer Christians in positions of importance. Also, he had Iran's arse in a sling for years before 9-11. I think the Bushes' animus toward Sadam was personal pettiness and for that, I can never forgive the shrub family. They are responsible for inflicting the Kenyan on us all to top it all off.

To be fair Saddam may have been the single worst dictator in the 20th century per capita of damage. I was totally against the invasion (I think I was 15 at the time, but I saw no connection between him and Bin Laden), but Saddam was awful and his sons were even worse. Here’s a man I respect, Christopher Hitchens, who I think let his personal justified hatred of Saddam cloud his mind talking about Saddam initially taking power, and it is an incredible tale. Worth all your time, because Saddam’s initial seizing of power is one of the most evil acquisitions of power you will ever hear: YouTube

EDIT: Gave you the better more dramatic link. YouTube buries anything good. It’s 5 minutes instead of 9 and with better music.
