I've never felt the need to own an AR15....until now. The confederation of dunces that is now the Democratic party scares the living hell out of me. I'm scared for myself, but mostly I'm scared for my children. I'm not sure that the country they inherit will be The United States of America. It seems to be slipping into the Union of Soviet Socialist States of America.

Meh, M1A is a much superior rifle for SHTF. AR-15's are really just a sporting rifle.

I don't blame you and ignore the naysayers. It's your constitutional right to buy an AR if you want and it's none of their damn business what you own.

Freedom. It's worth preserving

The USA your kids inherit will be different, but change has been one of the few constants in the mostly grand history of our great republic. I inherited a country that was more libertine than my parents', but I also didn't attend segregated schools like my parents did. While our present times may be shrill, we are in a time of great abundance and opportunity, as measured by all sorts of objective data--e.g., severe material deprivation, once common, is now extremely rare. We need to ensure that our children inherit the optimistic outlook that is fully justified by the facts and that we also bequeath to them the values and attitudes needed to act on such optimism. As for the AR, get the rifle if you want one, but your post strikes me as overwrought.

They are relatively cheap and highly modular. For that reason alone everyone should own one.

I would suggest either the chainsaw attachment or the mini AR-15 attachment.

MUCH superior? Blah. Heavy and expensive, and unless you're sniping someone in Stanland 5.56 is a better option for most people.

FWIW I 100% agree. An M1A is a really cool gun to own, but if I had to pick just one I would go with the AR platform every time.

In my opinion, you never talk about your guns online. But that’s just me

I reccomend the OP splurge on the AR that shoots 1200 rounds per minute and comes with the chainsaw attachment.

Guns are like women; everyone has their personal preferences.

Now I do love me some 308! But M1A is heavier, longer, and kicks harder than the AR platforms. And the AR’s 223 is effective at 200+ yards on deer size game (this includes people), while the 308 is effective out to 500 yards.

SHTF is more likely to be at in your face ranges, than 1/3 of a mile away. And the AR is more handy defending your castle.

But I agree that your M1A is a mighty fine weapon and choice.

If you're going to buy a long gun, especially for a SHTF scenario, there are 100 better choices. There might be 1000 better choices.

I carried an M4 for a year in Iraq, and I'd pick something from the AK line, or go to a gun forum to find something better.

I think the gun companies should send the shooters a thank you note. Now people will be once again scared of the boogey man taking away there guns. oh wait we have a GOP president and GOP controlled senate but yes they are taking away our guns.
