The Florida Governor has gone from saying banning weapons would be the wrong approach to seriously considering banning assault weapons in Florida.
As I said yesterday, The NRA might finally lose it's grip on our government.
Congressmen who take the hard line NRA positions will be under huge pressure come fall when they all face elections.

Doubtful, since their constituents probably take the same line.
Tell me: where were were the media and the masses screaming at the president for gun control when Obama was in office?
Oh-that's right-he couldn't do it because Congress wouldn't do it, and he got a pass.

It’s safe to assume he can’t define “assault style weapon”

Florida is not the battleground you want to pick.

What about the Congressmen who faced elections after having a supermajority and democratic president, yet still didn't pass any gun control legislation?
Are they under huge pressure too?

The idea that the NRA "owns" politicians makes the crazy assumption that nobody goes into gov't believing in gun rights. Balderdash.
Under your logic, can a democrat not genuinely believe in unions or aobriton rights because they receive donations from unions and planned parenthood?

In some far right districts that will still be the case.
In many other districts I expect a strong shift towards some tightening of laws and at least partial banning of assault guns.
The house was already in play, now it's up for grabs.
If there's anything Republican congressmen like more than the taste of NRA jizz, it's staying in office.

It's the bill of rights 2nd amendment...
It's in the constitution specifically

It is absolutely incredible how willing they are to eat up whatever they see on twitter or hear from a celebrity or news segment.
between 1998 and 2016, the NRA spent approximately $13 million on all candidates, parties, and leadership political action committees, according to the Left’s favorite fact-checker, Politifact. The NRA also spends money on “outside expenditures,” meaning ads they cut themselves, for example, in the amount of $144.3 million, plus another $45.9 million on lobbying. That’s a grand total of $203.2 million on political activities over 18 years, or approximately $22.6 million per 2-year election cycle. The NRA spends far more in presidential years than non-presidential years — according to OpenSecrets, the NRA spent some $54.4 million in 2016 on politics.
Let’s look at some other political actors, by way of contrast.
quote:
According to the National Institute for Labor Relations Research, labor unions spent $1.713 billion on political activities and lobbying for the 2016 election cycle alone. That’s not unusual: they also spent $2.2 billion on political activities in 2008 and 2010, and $1.69 billion in 2012.
Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading abortion mill, spent $33.9 million on outside spending from the 2012 through 2016 election cycles, according to OpenSecrets. EMILY’s List, another abortion group, spent $33.2 million on politics in 2016. NextGen Climate Action, a leftist group pushing climate change legislation, spent $22.9 million.
In other words, lots of groups spend lots of money — but the notion that the NRA is disproportionately “buying” politicians is asinine.

Yes, since this happened from 2008-2010 right?

lol no.

Where is the NRA in terms of amount of campaign contributions total?

''This is such a fricking dumb talking point''
Overlooking the fact you use non-word ''fricking'' it's a fact The NRA has owned the republican party for a generation. They pay good money for Congressmen.

It's not the total direct contributions from The NRA that move the needle so much.
An example. They gave very little directly to Trump or Republican Senators in 2016. What they did was spend 31 million running adds for Trump and against Hillary.
The same was true with a big 5 senators they supported with 18 million.
That and the fact NRA supporters vote as a block gives them their power over elected officials.

quote:The NRA isn’t paying politicians off to change their positions anymore than Planned Parenthood is doing so. There’s a reason the NRA supports pro-gun candidates and Planned Parenthood supports pro-abortion candidates. They pick the candidates who support their agenda and support them. They don’t go around offering cash in briefcases in order to convince those who disagree to go along with their agenda.
The NRA has owned the republican party for a generation. They pay good money for Congressmen.

Yep. The NRA is the moderate gun rights group. Hell, they have supported Brady legislation and registrations

Nra wrote the 2nd amendment and are forcing us to support it. If not for that goshgolly nra, no one would care about owning guns.
Curse that nra.
