NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)— Rumors have been swirling for weeks about the future plans of Governor John Bel Edwards. Political circles say that Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards could be eyeing a job with the Department of Energy in Washington D.C. Governor John Bel Edwards is denying it 100 percent.

Will Governor John Bel Edwards stay or go? He says there’s absolutely no way he’s stepping down, but that’s not what political analyst Jeff Crouere thinks.

quote:

“Now that we are heading to the mid-term of Edwards’ second term as Governor, and into President Joe Biden’s first year as President, these rumors are ramping up and I think there’s a lot to them,” Crouere said.

“He’s from and energy producing state. He knows the issue well. He is someone who I think is considered to be a moderate democrat, pro-business, pro-energy. I think the energy industry would be comfortable with him,” he said.

And he has the support the needs from fellow democrats.

“The Biden Administration has Cedric Richmond and Mitch Landrieu and they could be trying to get a fellow democrat in,” he said.

Communications Director with Governor John Bel Edwards’ office said in a statement:

“The Governor is hard at work for the people of Louisiana. He has the job he wants.
There is absolutely no story other than that here. He’s actually meeting with some of his Cabinet and others next week to discuss the best ways to access Federal Infrastructure dollars to support Louisiana’s long-term climate goals, which are part of Louisiana’s climate action plan. He meets regularly with his Cabinet as most Governors do, I would imagine.”

quote:

Governor Edwards’ term doesn’t end until January of 2024. He was re-elected in 2019.

If this were to happen Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, a Republican would step in—something Crouere thinks gives Nungesser a major advantage in the next election for Governor.

The solid, reassuring "He has the job he wants".

I disagree. I hope JBE leaves and this fricking POS gets put in so that he's exposed and it tarnishes his shine for the next election.

LA is screwed, but it will be screwed worse and faster with that fat POS wielding power.

Yeah, if we're being honest, I don't think Gov. Bel Edwards knows a whole lot about the O&G industry.

Most politicians don't. They just pretend to in order to get votes if they're in a fossil fuel state.

This is him dodging problems from the state police beating the frick out of that guy and him covering it up to get re-elected.

He knows just enough to sue them for legacy costs. Not sure he sees them as anything but a piggy bank to be raided constantly.

Worthless Hump who has f2cked this states energy industry (who supported him whole heartedly and deserve the @ss raping they are getting.)

he is coming under heat over the LSP incident and the revelation that covid protocols were a managed haox by his party.

He needs a good job out of state before biden dies.

Well he’s been doing everything he’s been told to do hoping this day would come.
Him saying he wouldn’t accept a position in DC is BS just like everything else that comes out of his mouth.

This illustrates perfectly the problem with the size and scope of the federal government.

A governor of a US state taking a cabinet level job in DC should be considered a demotion, not advancing their career.

I think it happens two years and a day or two into his governors term. If he leaves prior, Cedric Richmond wouldnt be able to control Nungesser for 2 full terms.

He would be the perfect administration hire. We've declined in every area except crime.

The amount of work Billy has put into prepping for a run at the Governor's seat has been impressive, especially considering that he probably still won't win.

JBE would be smart to leave for DC, it would make his involvement with the Ronald Greene situation disappear overnight.
