Last night around this time my cell phone started ringing with a number that I didn't recognize but said it was from a local town. Thinking it may be important I answered it and it was an automated poll for Louisiana elections (as well as President) from some outfit called TFG Research which it turns out appears to be The Trafalgar Group. They asked the usual questions about who I was voting for in the Presidential race, Louisiana Senate race, and who I favored for the 2022 Louisiana Senate race.

My question is this: How can polls be considered reliable if there's no consistency to who answers the call? I could very easily have ignored the call or hung up when I realized it was a poll. Do pollsters just keep going until they have enough of a sample of people who answer the call? They doesn't seem like an unbiased way to truly get the pulse of a voting bloc at all.

Yes they keep trying.

The response rate is about 2% so to get the 1500 they need for a good poll takes tons of calls.

20 years ago the response rate was close to 30% so you can see what people now think of polls.

Why are they polling LA again? They already polled here a couple months ago. They should be polling NV IA or NH or other swing states they haven’t polled yet

They make about 50,000 calls to get just 1,000 answers.
