GOP senators expect impeachment trial to go past State of the Union

Top Republican senators signaled on Tuesday that President Trump's impeachment trial will likely not be over by the time he delivers the annual State of the Union address next month.
Asked about his previous forecast that the trial will end before the president's address, Sen. Roy Blunt (Mo.), the No. 4 Republican in the Senate, laughed and said, “Obviously I was wrong.”
Pressed if he thought Feb. 4 was no longer a realistic deadline, he added: “I don’t.”

Sen. John Thune (S.D.), the No. 2 Senate Republican, didn’t rule out the possibility of the trial concluding by Feb. 4 but warned that it would be a “fairly tight deadline given what we’re facing.”
Senate Republicans say they want a relatively quick impeachment trial, with few or no witnesses for either Trump’s legal team or House impeachment managers
Republicans have said they expect the first phase of the impeachment trial — opening arguments and questions from senators — will last approximately two weeks.
If opening arguments don’t start until Jan. 21, that would put the end of the initial two-week timeline right up against the State of the Union.
After the first phase senators still need to decide whether they will call additional witnesses, and ultimately need to vote to convict or acquit Trump. LINK

If I was Trump, I would not give the State of the Union until it was over.

They should drag this out as long as they can and the Democrats that are running for President can thank their cohorts for this BS. See how long this shite lasts when it's keeping them off of the campaign trail.

and why wouldnt it be over?
it should take less then 1 hour total
read the articles of impeachment, turtle says thats cute but not one thing in there is a crime or even outside of trumps legitimate duties, so what else you got?
after 5 minutes of crickets chirping turtle bangs gavel and dismisses the articles for having no crime listed, cause to impeach, or legitimacy in law and its over, time for lunch everyone

Hell no. The SOT is his perfect opportunity to blast these POS in Trump style. The Dems would celebrate if he cancelled the SOT. The headlines:
"Trump goes into hiding."
'Trump retreats amidst chaos.'
'Trump considering resignation.'

Disagree. He should continue on doing his job as if this thing isn't even happening. Because it shouldn't be and he will be acquitted. It actually provides a good platform for him to put into the permanent record what is happening against his office.
I think it's actually critical that he continue with it on schedule.
