One of the main reasons many people don't want to even discuss gun control is because "criminals will get guns anyway!"
While it is true that criminals do criminal things, that is most certainly NOT the reason I support the 2nd amendment (and the NRA and GOA). The right to possess firearms is not for self defense or hunting. It is there to make certain that the government does not become tyrannical. Our founding fathers would think we should have already revolted due to the huge restrictions and removal of freedoms.
And before some idiot says armed civilians could never beat the US military I would like to say a couple of words.
Vietnam
Korea
Iraq
Afganistan
It would be impossible for the US Government to control the 100 million people in America who have guns. The 4 countries above did a pretty good job of giving us trouble and there were no where near 100 million guns in the hands of our enemy.

first, let's agree that the context of the 2nd Amendment applied to us in the 1700s. Right?
When that was written, did our forefathers even know what a AR-15 (just for this example) could do?
You ignorant child.
Caetano v Massachusetts:

PER CURIAM.
The Court has held that "the Second Amendment extends, prima facie, to all instruments that constitute bearable arms, even those that were not in existence at the time of the founding," District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U. S. 570, 582 (2008),
