So, I'm watching German news on Link TV. The story is about the 30th anniversary of the wall falling.
Merkel gives a speech about how not enough has been done to pull E. Germans out of 'second class citizenship.'
All 30 of the top corporations in Germany are headquartered in the west.
Per capita income is higher in the west.
Older E. Germans they interviewed said 'Our life was in some ways more secure under communism. The reunification was unsettling.'

I found it odd that Merkel was bitching about 'something needs to be done' when she is from E. Germany and she's been running the show for 15 years.

It's the same as a Dem mayor getting on TV and telling America what a crime ridden shite hole their city is when Dems have been in charge for 50 years.

Total lack of self awareness.

So an ex-commie politician from the former East Germany is no different from an American Democrat.

Because US news only has one story: Trump is evil and must go.

So, I watch daily news from UK, France, Germany and Japan to find out what's going on besides the impeachment.

Good answer. I was being facetious but also was generally curious.

You have to be very selective with Link TV. Most of their programming is about Global Warming and life in 3rd world shite hole countries.

I lived as an Army brat in Darmstadt from 73-77, and years later after LSU, I was stationed at Reese Kaserne in Augsburg before and after the wall came down. It was an amazing time to be there and I have a very strong affection for a shite ton of people and many things German.

When stationed in Augsburg, I lived off base and had rented a condo from a German family in a little village called Mering. Tons of German news on TV, that's all I could get since you can't get AFN off base.

Anyways, when the wall came down, many of the West Germans were bitching then, basically saying they would have to subsidize and support the poor "trash" from the East side. I was kind of dumbfounded at that attitude. I would tell some of my German friends over a liter of beer or a BBQ (which I introduced the concept to them), "how can you say that? They have been forcefully separated from you for only 44 years, but they are your family...they are you.....they are your countrymen...when they see how relatively filthy rich and developed you are, they, as Germans, will step up. Maybe not enough East Germans have stepped up?

Apologies for the TL/DR rambling post.

The reason I feel Korean Unification will be much tougher. The economic divide is much larger in Korea than divided Germany. The animosity is even higher in Korea. Among Numerous other issues.

Well just look at the number of professional politicians in DC, yet they complain about the same thing every election cycle.

Has any journalist ever asked a politician.... "So Mr. Biden you have served in Office for 44 years have you ever considered you might be part of the problem and not the solution?

Well, one reason for hope is that 10s of thousands of North Koreans have made their way to S. Korea over the last 20 years. They have assimilated very well. However, they were the ones with the motivation to take the risk to escape.

Look at how much Hunter pulled in off the Ukrainian money we sent over there...and just imagine how much more was given out to all those who knew of this scam, and wanted their cut...to wink and look the other way. And this is just one instance. This one...times the countless thousands of Government-let Contracts. I heard that J. Comey sat on the Board of a Military Contractor which then Director Meuller signed off for a no-bid Contract, and Comey made 30 M.

IMO, it would not surprise me one bit if upward of 50% of allotted tax monies goes to those whose hands are in on the deal. And Trump the Builder, is a master at watching the Books. He'll wreck that cash cow for the whole Establishment up there. They won't let that happen, minus a serious effort to get him out...by "whatever means necessary". National Security...on the line.

You have a great point, and I will say this: A couple of my German friends escaped East Germany to come to the West and assimilated very well, before the wall came down.

I remember one time in '88, as a young Lieutenant, we had an exercise that at the time was called "REFORGER." Basically it had a ton of stateside units to come over and conduct exercises with those of us (Americans and Brits and West German Bundeswehr Army units); At the time, one would literally see heavy mechanized tracked vehicles and military equipment rolling ALL OVER the German countryside, through towns and villages, setting up camp on German farms, etc.....One night, as an artillery FDO, our vehicle was an M577 (sorry, I can't post a pic, but it's like that old Armored Personnel carrier except a lot taller), so I ordered my guys one night to park it in what seemed to be an industrial part of a little town near Stuttgart. Turns out, that building was not only the factory, but the whole family lived there, and of course our engine, generators and radios made a ton of racket. The rolling metal garage doors opened, and out stepped the most beautiful family....they greeted us warmly, and when they saw we were American soldiers they gave us huge hugs. They had 3 young boys, ranging from 10-6 years....they DEMANDED that we come in, they baked and cooked for us, and we stayed up all night. They woke their boys up and had them come out to meet us, and we took the kids into the vehicle to show them around....

Long story long, the Father of that family who was about 40 at the time had escaped from East Germany, and started as a laborer and somehow managed to become the (at the time) sole manufacturer of all of the insulation/sound proofing for Mercedes Benz at the time, and his "factory" was in that little village outside of Stuttgart. I still keep in touch with him and his wife and his sons.

Sorry again....TL/DR, not political so much but what the hell this is a good thread. Thanks for starting it Zach.

Like the dems in the US, Merkel cares more about aliens than citizens.

I think I understand what you tried to say, just want to confirm: Certainly you are NOT talking about (FORMER EAST) German citizens of the country, and rather are talking about the recent infestation of Germany by actual aliens, right?
