Defense Secretary Jim Mattis had a secret meeting with a top Amazon cloud sales executive in 2017 before the Pentagon announced a $10 billion cloud computing contract that critics say was designed to be fulfilled only by Amazon, Fox News' Tucker Carlson reported on Friday.

The Intercept further noted that there are allegations that former DOD official Deap Ubhi, who left to work for Amazon in 2017, "worked on the preliminary research for the JEDI program in the late summer and fall of 2017" and was "also engaged in a secret job negotiation with Amazon for months, complete with salary discussions, offers of signing bonuses, and lucrative stock options."

WOW completely crooked top to bottom. Only person I trust in the government currently is DJT.

So the DoD is guilty of a sole source contract? This happens a shitload of times everyday.

Yeah the top DoD official meeting with the heads of the DS (Amazon) and redacting names while subordinates are in salary negotiations with the DS. Yeah that doesn’t happen multiple times everyday.

Clintons Energy Secretary took a job with an energy company as soon as she left the Gov't. Mueller or Comey did the same.
Its SOP for Government employees.

I'm pretty sure you would be shocked then at what takes place everyday....I've been doing Gov't. contracts for most of the past 40 yrs.

How do you think Lockheed Martin has it's way in defence procurement. F-35 is a 20yr old boondoggle, that has sacred cow protection from within the Pentagon and Congress. Most of the officers assigned to F35 procurement slide into permanent, or consultancy positions at LM following active duty service.

who else would you expect to do it? IBM sucks they can't even make the weather channel app work half the time. Amazon has better logistical data. They know what the entire world is up to both on the internet and from a supply chain perspective. Your other options or maybe fedex and walmart and neither are in to cloud computing. Google probably already has some agreement and they want a chinese wall (metaphorical) between some of the intel.

I oft times lamented the fact that we are headed toward some form of Authoritarian governance, given the Ideological polarity of our fast-changing electorate, and the dysfunction therein. All of a sudden this morning, I'm amused at myself for not realizing that apparently, we've been there for quite a while. Just that the election of the radical Trump has/will exposed the extent that the DC Cabal runs the show, by whatever means necessary. I'm surprised Trump is still sucking air.

And the irony is that people like Mattis, truly believe that their complicity and economic prosperity in what has become an anti-Constitutional (Authoritarian) governing Mechanism, is both practical, and moral. And that "you don't muzzle the ox that treads the corn". They are like the 'boiling frog'; they got 'boiled' and don't even realize it.

Power corrupts. I well remember reading M. Scott Peck's "People of the Lie"; it shook me up realizing what we are up against. There are a LOT of people up there who are tainted by this stain; they're whole personal and economic life re who/what they are (good/bad), is on the line. A lot were duped from top>down info. It'll take a while to sort this out, if it happens.

Glenn Beck said way back that "the Socialist will come out of the closet"; many scoffed. Kiss the electoral system (acceptance of consequences therein) goodbye. The Left will never accept the 'immorality' of Capitalism...and the Right can never allow the Left to take power over their God-given Rights. Immovable object meet unstoppable force.

The fact that our government is storing military secrets on a private company's server is somewhat disturbing.

I don't think the sole source is the problem. It’s deciding on the sole source without looking anywhere else. Amazon isn’t the only business that developed cloud technology.

And furthermore. frick Jeff Bezos. Alexa is not coming anywhere near me. I don’t need big government or big business listening to me all day long. And that’s the malicious, insidious goal of that machine.

Except for: (a) Amazon competes with companies like IBM for the same service so it should not be a sole source contract and (b) there are laws and a shite ton of documentation to prevent colluding to solve source for a personal benefit.
