I remember gas prices being above $4 a gallon under Obama but I just paid $4.59 for a gallon of gas. I was cursing Biden while putting gas in my car.

Does anyone remember if gas prices got this high in the south under Obama?

Bush may be the better comparison.

What would you like the answer to be in order to play to your pre-existing biases the most?

Gas prices were pretty damn high during the end of Bush's second term. Never hit $4 in Louisiana. Maybe $3.50 or something close to that. The economy was in a bubble and about to burst.

Maybe it was Bush I was thinking of it seems so long ago. I understand the crap going on over in Europe but can our current moron of a POTUS just open up the damn pipeline? I know thats a stupid question-just had to vent about the current gas prices.

The previous national average high was something like 4.10 in the summer of 2008.

We're currently around $4.30.

See that high there? That's July 2008. Notice how it begins dropping like a rock for the next 5 months? What happened in July 2008 which could have caused that?

Bush Lifts Presidential Ban on Drilling Off US Coasts

Published:
Sun, Jul 13, 2008

President Bush lifted an 18-year presidential ban on oil and gas drilling off most of the US coast on Monday. The move immediately drew fire from Democratic members of Congress while renewing debate on a separate congressional ban that is set to expire at the end of September.

When Biden first got into office we were still eating through the COVID surplus of oil and gas, but what did he do that first week?

President Biden Freezes New Oil and Gas Leases and Pauses Permits on Federal Lands and Offshore

Monday, February 8, 2021

On his first full day in office, President Biden indicated that the moderate Joe Biden we were all expecting might not be appearing on oil and gas issues and his administration’s energy policies would be informed by the more progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

And just over a year later?

Biden administration freezes new oil and gas drilling leases after court rules against key climate tool

The Biden administration has once again put a pause on new leases and permits for federal oil and gas drilling after a judge blocked the administration from using a metric that estimates the societal cost of carbon emissions.

Last time prices got this high it triggered a financial collapse.

How pointless is this? Obama had a shale boom and no pandemic. You can’t compare these. Presidents don’t control oil prices, at least not in the near term. They can influence them 4 or 5 years out, that’s about it. Gasoline would not be 10 cents cheaper if Trump was president.

Oil supply dropped during the pandemic due to lack of demand. Remember it went negative? It takes a while to reverse that; we can’t just turn valves. Also, refineries were taken out of commission - some near NOLA. This had little to do with politics, except that the politicians - especially DJT - shut down the conomy.

You're right. It would be $2 cheaper.

The Katrina nightmare in the gulf as well as the havoc it played on Louisiana refineries is that cause during Bush
